The Automation Service Engineer II will provide primary service response to laboratory operations at Guardant Health’s Redwood City California facility. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing or facilitating calibration, maintenance and repair of equipment utilized for DNA Extraction, Library Preparation, DNA Quantification and Sequencing. This position requires a candidate that is strong in root cause analysis and repair of equipment commonly used in the DNA sequencing workflow. He/She must be detail oriented, have worked in a regulated environment (CLIA, CAP and FDA desirable), strong documentation skills (GDP) and strong communication skills both written and verbal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for service, support and troubleshooting of automated processes and instrumentation at Guardant Health’s Redwood City CA. facility.
Responsible for performing or coordinating maintenance of all laboratory equipment.
Perform Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Process Qualification (PQ) on new equipment and as needed.
Required to work with Quality to ensure all documentation is accurately completed per regulatory requirements.
Maintain organized equipment records.
Perform root cause analysis of problems that occur on instruments associated with Guardant’s DNA sequencing products.
Triage equipment issues and involve vendors as required.
Draft documentation as needed related to equipment operation and maintenance.
Suggest process improvements and design a plan to execute them.
Represent the Engineering Group in cross functional meetings
Execute special projects as assigned
Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience
Experience operating and troubleshooting Hamilton Liquid Handlers, Illumina Sequencers, Fragment Analyzer, Formulatrix Mantis/Tempest and other DNA quantification instruments is required.
Strong customer focused service experience.
Ability to constructively challenge concerns and engage in transparent conversations
Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems with minimal direction and make decisions with confidence.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to successfully balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects/tasks
Experience troubleshooting complex excel macros desirable
Experience with use of virtual machines to drive robotics is desirable
Experience with Molecular Biology techniques desirable
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships
High degree of initiative and self-motivation
Drive for continual improvement
Experience with MS Office
BS degree in a scientific discipline. Or relevant work experience accepted.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
