The Tennessee Office of the Post-Conviction Defender is accepting applications for an
Administrative Assistant position. This is an employment at-will position. All levels of experience will be considered. Applications will be reviewed on rolling basis.

The OPCD is an independent agency of the Tennessee state government. The agency represents people sentenced to death in Tennessee and provides assistance and educational resources to appointed counsel in capital cases. Direct representation focuses on the investigation and presentation of collateral claims in state courts, mostly in post-conviction proceedings. The OPCD handles cases throughout

The administrative assistant will share receptionist responsibilities; process documents by scanning, copying, and saving in a document management system; manage and maintain the agency’s library book inventory; maintain office supplies and ensure office equipment is working properly; make and manage travel arrangements for agency; and provide other administrative and case assistance as needed. The administrative assistant will be responsible for some human resources and fiscal services including managing onboarding, timekeeping, maintaining personnel files, entering vouchers for payment in accounting system and attending various human resources and fiscal/accounting training meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Well-organized and detailed-oriented
  • Ability to multitask and work within strict deadlines
  • Possess strong typing and technology skills
  • Occasional overnight travel in-state and out-of-state may be required
  • A valid Tennessee driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A college degree in a relevant field
  • Prior experience in a criminal defense law firm or government agency
