Networked Systems Design & Integration Engineering Director
Fairwinds is looking for innovators who can successfully execute across multiple disciplines as part of a small business environment. An ideal candidate would be an out of the box thinker, develop innovative solutions, and provide expertise in an IP connected environment across RF Tactical & Naval Military Solutions to strategic border protection Applications. This would include experience in communications systems & test engineering including SATCOM and terrestrial wireless transmission systems integrated with Software Defined Networking. Work under the Chief Technology & Strategy Office to define Integrated Tactical Network Engineering Design Investments and develop multiple system of system design solutions for customers across the communications & radar spectrums. Ability to design and implementation of flexible open standard interfaces for tactical applications. Looking for someone that has the ability to interact with both customers & engineering design teams to identify their subject matter expertise towards overall system design for new cutting-edge technologies and identify current issues and correct those to the customers satisfaction.
Location- APG- Hybrid (this position may require you to be on-site when the job requires it)
Travel- up to 30%
Required Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer, Software, Electrical, Electronics, Network Science, or Systems Engineering. Or a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
- 5 years’ experience designing networked system of systems for Naval or Tactical Military platforms.
- 5 years’ experience with designing integrated networked solutions for rapid prototyping and quick reaction communications systems.
- Understanding of materials science and thermal management engineering.
- Understanding of open system interfaces and the challenges involved in integrating systems from different manufacturers.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in systems engineering design and development.
- Ability to not shy away from technical challenges and an approach of how it can be done, not how it can't be done.
- Experience with SATCOM, Terrestrial Wireless/Radio, SD-WAN Systems.
- Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Security+, VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification
- Experience with MATLAB & Simulink.
- Experience writing Technical White Papers
- Experience with CMOSS-MORA Open Standards
- Ability to work independently and up to 75% remote.
- Ability to Travel up to 30% of the time.
- Ability to brief non-technical Senior Leadership with experience briefing on highly technical matters.
- US Citizen
- Active Secret or higher DoD Security Clearance
Additional Experience in these areas is a plus:
- Master of Electrical or Systems Engineering – Or equivalent
- 10 years’ experience in development of integrated system designs utilizing multiple transmission means including Mobile SATCOM Systems.
- 5 years’ experience developing system designs for Electronically steered Phased Array antenna systems.
- Experience with phased arrays, metamaterials, and/or patch antenna modelling, design, fab, and test in a research and development setting
- A background in scientific programming using languages such as C, C++, Fortran, Python, Rust, or Julia

This is a full time, exempt position.
