Job Summary:
The HIM Specialist is responsible for assembling and analyzing medical record timely, accurately and correctly for completeness to ensure compliance within regulatory requirements; adds deficiencies in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for dictation, signature and/or completion, and tracking of the incomplete records. Monitors transcribed report ensuring it is imaged/stored in the correct account number. Responsible for the accurate preparation and scanning of all medical record documents for permanent storage and retrieval in EMR ensuring integrity of patient identification data and documentation. Responsible for Release of Information by processing authorized request from the patient, healthcare providers for continuing patient care, and to outside individual or agency in compliance with all HIPAA and Regulatory guidelines to protect and maintain the security and confidentiality of patient data and medical information. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the providers, patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Performs other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
High school Diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in HIM related field preferred
Work Experience:
Working knowledge of HIM Department operations including completion of medical record, release of confidential information, and HIPAA guidelines. Communication, telephone skills, personal computers, copy machine, and fax machine required. Microsoft Office suite products with proficiency in Excel and Word preferred. Knowledge of health information systems as well as coding and abstracting systems preferred. Knowledge of electronic medical record systems as well as content of the electronic medical record preferred.

- RHIA/RHIT Certification (Within 1 Year of Employment Preferred)
