Tetra Tech is seeking an Emergency Management Planner/Resiliency Intern for the summer of 2018 with possibility for transition to full-time entry level position. Candidate must be located within commuting distance from either Parsippany, NJ, Albany, NY, or Harrisburg, PA.
The selected candidate will work with the Resilience and Emergency Management program managers in support of a wide variety of planning activities throughout the country. Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a motivated and eager-to-learn planner. Planner would provide support for a wide-array of research and analysis of data for various resiliency projects. Responsibilities would include collecting, analyzing and synthesizing data related to resiliency,hazard mitigation and or emergency planning and support of project stakeholder coordination and outreach activities.
The selected candidate will:
Work collaboratively with and under the supervision of a senior analyst, planner or project manager
Liaise with professionals on technical aspects of project and program development
Assist in the preparation of various plans including hazard mitigation and community redevelopment plans including research and analysis of socio-economic, demographic, environmental, historical hazard data, etc.
Assist with production needs for internal and client deliverables
Provide administrative support as needed
Demonstrated understanding of basic resilience and emergency management planning tools and concepts. Basic project management concepts including client management and performing to the project scope and timeline under the guidance of the project manager. Must be able to work independently and effectively coordinate projects at the ground level on a daily basis on behalf of the project manager. Understanding of the emergency management and homeland security environment within the public sector and private sector.
Strong oral communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff. Strong writing skills with an ability to provide periodic editorial support to the client. Strong research and data analysis background. Familiarity with social media platforms and public outreach techniques. Must be willing to support client requests for assistance with community engagement, planned events, emergency response, and activities outside of normal operating hours. Must demonstrate a flexible style and an ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities. Must demonstrate ability to thoroughly and correctly deliver client-requested secondary tasks under expedited time constraints. Ability to present information and reports to both operational and executive groups. Ability to compile data using spreadsheets and forms. Ability to conduct general administrative duties (e.g. scheduling, document formatting, printing) using desktop computer applications.
Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program (preferably in community/urban planning, emergency management, homeland security or risk management.
