Amigos de los Rios is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization that implements visionary sustainable & community based Green Infrastructure improvements for park-poor communities across the Greater Los Angeles Region. Our key project is the Emerald Necklace Metropolitan Vision – an interconnected watershed scale system of multi-objective parks, green spaces, trails and school campus greening projects that stretches from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. This interwoven system of natural Infrastructure elements will protect and enhance ecosystem services, improve recreation opportunities and public health outcomes for urban residents. Under the supervision of the Managing Director and in collaboration with partnering organizations, the Landscape Architect/Design Position will provide professional landscape architectural and design services to the planning, design, and development of projects in connection with Green Infrastructure, parks, parkways, school campuses, recreation areas and trails. The position will work across multiple projects and will change in scope and purpose as per project demands.

Essential Duties:

  • Demonstrate excellent design aptitude in Adobe Suite , and high level of CAD proficiency
  • Prepare landscape architectural concept plans, design development sketches and work with team to complete construction documents,
  • Research materials, methods, amenities and create required cost estimates for projects
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and key partners
  • Weekly construction site visits as required to keep project on track
  • Weekly project management and correspondence as required to maintain project grant schedule
  • Timely written and verbal reports for grants and Managing Director
  • Project Management and general oversight as needed for various projects
  • Fulfill grant project goals and stipulations as required for current projects


  • Ability to remain flexible, responsive, prioritize and meet multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent proficiency in use of Architecture / Design Software: Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, Rhino.
  • High level experience in use of Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to work both proactively and independently and as part of effective team
  • Attention and commitment to detail , clerical accuracy and accountability
  • Knowledge of and interest in native plant landscapes and green infrastructure practices, irrigation systems, establishment and soil care
  • Familiarity with Federal, State and County ordinances and legislation which impact landscape & architectural practices and construction
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s in Architecture or Landscape Design or equivalent experience
  • Current valid United States driver’s license
  • Demonstrate excellent skills in writing, and oral communication
  • Ability to lift 25-40 pounds

Fellowship is a 3 to 6 month position - compensation based on education and experience - potential for staff level position upon completion.
