MONITOR TECHNICIAN JOB DUTIES:
Notifies ICU RN of changes in patient(s) heart rhythm
Documents EKG rhythms, EKG measurements, and EKG changes.
Assists in Code Blues, cardioversion, and reprogramming of pacemakers by running monitor strips as appropriate
Calls Med/Surg RN, FBC RN, Med/Surg Charge RN or ICU RN for lead wires off, electrode and battery changes, and proper lead placements to ensure optimal rhythm configuration on the telemetry monitor.
Maintains equipment and supplies.
Notifies BioMed of all malfunctions and problems with equipment as soon as possible. Keeps ICU Manager informed of any issues with equipment.
Maintains log of missing equipment and recovers from department responsible for loss.
Adjusts schedule to unit needs – picks up extra shifts, changes scheduled days, and flexes in rotation.
Complies with Code of Conduct, confidentiality, and HIPAA policies. Provides privacy and confidentiality to customers.
Treats customers with care, courtesy, consideration and dignity.
Utilizes effectively and efficiently resources, supplies, and equipment.
Assesses physical environment and reports unsafe conditions. Adheres to safety standards.
SERVICE MANAGEMENT AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES:
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standard regarding safety and infection control issues
Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance
Evaluate EKG related equipment and inventory
Maintain current CPR or BCLS certification
Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills
Demonstrate appropriate social skills
Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy
Comply with ADIET Standards of Conduct
Actively participates in HRRMC Organizational Strategic Plan
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: An EKG Technologist must have all of the following in addition to being BLS certified:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient age groups, as stated above.
Demonstrates the ability to assess, collect, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age specific needs.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Graduate of a paramedic course or EMT course, or 6 months experience as an EKG Monitor Tech is preferred. Successfully pass arrhythmia course and exam and is able to function in the role with completion of orientation to role.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
