In this role, you will complete individual property appraisals and gain experience in the mass appraisal process on all types of residential properties across Hennepin County. Location and hours:
This position will be located downtown Minneapolis at the Government Center.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Complete mass residential appraisals by viewing and recording physical characteristics of buildings and land
Evaluate and classify residential structures based on construction qualities; complete digital sketches of structures, and participate in studies of new construction, sales data, and neighborhood trend analysis to complete mass appraisal valuations
Complete routine assessment duties, including completing divisions of parcels, processing change orders, and recording values on assessment runs or on field records
Respond to taxpayers' questions and inquiries regarding assessment laws and procedures, residential valuation inquiries, and residential appraisal practices
Contribute to the preparation of the annual assessments to meet standards established by the County Assessor

Need to have:One of the following:
A bachelor's degree or higher in real estate or closely related field
Two or more years of assessment or real estate appraisal experience
One or more years of experience as an Assessment Technician in Hennepin County and licensed as a Certified Minnesota Assessor (CMA)
A valid driver's license

Nice to have:
Experience with mass appraisal of residential properties
Experience with mass appraisal computer software programs and/or statistical analysis programs
Knowledge of Minnesota assessment procedures

Ability to:
Make physical measurements of real property using tapes or other distance measuring tools; walk on uneven terrain; and climb stairs in order to view physical or structural features of properties
Obtain the Certified Minnesota Assessor (CMA) certification from the Minnesota State Board of Assessors within two years of employment, and as a condition of continued employment, applicants with a CMA certification must obtain licensure as an Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA) within four years of having become licensed as a CMA

The Hennepin County Assessor's Office estimates property values in Hennepin County and sets classifications for tax purposes. The County Assessor's Office also provides guidance and oversight with interpretation and policy development to assessors countywide.
