7:00 am – 3:30 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position is highly needed in the Building Interior Department to
perform general maintenance such as painting, sheetrock wall repair, carpet repair,
VCT, ceramic tile and laminate floor tile repair, carpentry, ceiling tile replacement
identifying water leaks, wall cove base.

Minimum Education/Experience

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Contributing: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties

The FM Technician Building Trades performs under the direction of the Renovations supervisor.

1. Provide career tracks including but not limited to cabinetmaking, carpentry, locksmith, masonry, painting, plastering, and roofing. Will perform a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled, to highly skilled.

2. Apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to trade.

3. Tasks include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and knowledge of and adherence to safety policies and regulations.

4. Position may serve as lead technician and/or crew leader, directing the work of others.

Other Work Responsibilities

1. Position is considered to be fully functioning in construction.
2. This position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the journey level.
3. Perform other duties to support all operations as assigned and/or delegated.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

1. Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
2. Ability to follow applicable building codes.
3. Ability to effectively communicate English (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
4. Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication, however, excellent communication skills are preferred.
5. Computer literate.
6. Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
7. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
8. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants, and the entire campus community.
10. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the position’s essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
