Americana Fiberworks is a women's arts and educational group designed to support the positive integration of refugee and immigrant women into the Louisville community using a common interest in fiber arts. By learning and sharing artistic skills, expanding entrepreneurship skills, exploring U.S. culture, and developing social networks, participants help one another develop the confidence, skills and resources necessary to empower themselves and support their families.
The schedule is part-time with mandatory hours T-Th 12-3pm & 3-4 hours of flexible work time weekly for planning, prep, marketing and events.
Americana Community Center is looking for a Fiberworks Arts Coordinator to work in a diverse multicultural setting, teaching refugee and immigrant women a fiber arts trade while coordinating the efforts of participants & volunteers to complete group identified projects and increase marketing & micro-enterprise opportunities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates should have a working knowledge of sewing machines, sewing techniques, crochet, alteration and pattern drafting. Skills in knitting, beading, weaving, dyeing, quilting, embroidery, etc. are also desirable. Patience and flexibility to work cross-culturally and with a diverse group of people is required. The position requires someone with strong leadership and/or teaching abilities that can be self-directed. Computer literate in Microsoft Office and Google Software is a plus. Bilingual is preferred. Experience with Etsy is a definite plus.
This employee must be willing to work a flexible work schedule and will need to provide their own transportation to Americana every workday.
