Responsible for leadership and development of accounting staff. Oversees day to day operations, month-end financial statement close process and internal controls over financial reporting. Partners across finance and other departments to provide accounting guidance, support and to coordinate responses to accounting requests.

Essential Functions:
Manages monthly close process including creation of detailed close calendar and coordination of inputs that are non-routine.
Manages the analysis of the P&L and Balance Sheet accounts within the Manager’s responsibility and produces accurate, timely explanation of results.
Manages internal financial reporting and provides results to the company’s leadership team
Presents monthly P&L and Balance Sheet results to Market Finance and Actuary
Directs work assignments, measures results and initiates personnel actions as required
Conducts employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions that may be required
Manages process improvement initiatives including identifying opportunities for improvements in processes and systems.
Manages and develops staff performance
Work closely with other department leaders (actuary, medical economics, health analytics, service fund, revenue reconciliation, IT, market finance, etc.) to support inquiries, identify gaps and improvements in processes and provide guidance to other departments as necessary
Oversees and ensures response process for audit activities with internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners are received timely
Perform other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:Candidate Education:
Required A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

Candidate Experience:
Required 5 years of experience in general accounting
Required 2 years of experience in managing or leading teams
Required 2 years of experience in managed care or other related health care experience
Preferred Other combination of public and private accounting experience

Candidate Skills:
Advanced Ability to analyze and interpret financial data in order to coordinate the preparation of financial records
Intermediate Ability to communicate and make recommendations to upper management
Intermediate Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers and management
Intermediate Ability to implement process improvements
Intermediate Ability to lead/manage others in a matrixed environment
Intermediate Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills
Advanced Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information
Intermediate Other Ability to communicate complex information both in verbal and written format across a variety of departments within the organization

Licenses and Certifications:A license in one of the following is required:
Preferred Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Preferred Other equivalent accounting certificate

Required Advanced Microsoft Word
Required Intermediate Other Experience with automated financial applications (e.g. SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Grant Plains)
