JOB DESCRIPTION

Department:

Job Title: Code Inspector

General Definition: Ensures that all building erections, additions, alterations, repairs, remodeling or demolitions and all installations of building systems meet code requirements including all electrical, plumbing, mechanical, building and fuel gas.

Supervision Received: Lead Code Inspector

Supervision Exercised: None

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs on-site inspections of new, existing commercial, residential and NAHASDA housing facilities to verify compliance with the International Building Codes.
  • Issues notices of violations and corrections needed to maintain compliance with the International Building Codes.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate files for each job site and all projects
  • Enforces licensing laws pertaining to each trade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

Education and Experience:

  • 5 years experience as a contractor, engineer, architect, or a construction superintendent and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be an ICC certified inspector

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, understand, apply, and retain knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods of time in order to properly perform the assigned job duties.
  • Frequently exposed to construction site hazards and noise areas where the use of a hard hat is required and outdoor elements.
  • Must have working knowledge of how to read plans, blueprints, engineering reports and specifications
  • Must have a working knowledge of all building and construction codes as well as the associated standards.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must have the ability to present information and respond to questions from management, customers and public groups.
  • Must have working knowledge of computer programs in order to retrieve, update, and keep accurate details concerning construction projects and inspection results.
  • Employee must exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership.

Training and Experience:

  • 5 years experience as a contractor, engineer, architect, or a construction superintendent and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be an ICC certified inspector

Licenses/Certifications/Other:

  • Must be a licensed Inspector by the State of Oklahoma in 2 or more of the following categories; Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass background check and receive a gaming license from the Chickasaw Nation office of the Gaming Commission as required to work in gaming operations.
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment drug test with a negative result.
