We are recruiting for a Director, Loss Prevention to join our Risk Management Team in Louisville, Kentucky.

Job Summary:
Directs Loss Prevention programs for all Divisions of the company. Develops and implements policies and procedures for inclusion of loss prevention in all healthcare operations. Develops department strategic plans and oversees the design, development and implementation of Loss Prevention programs. Serves as the advisor to corporate leadership for the reduction of frequency and severity. Oversees the company's compliance with federal and state requirements and internal policies and procedures relating to loss prevention, safety and security.

Essential Functions: (Those functions that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation).

Creates loss prevention strategies designed to reduce claim frequency and severity. Works collaboratively with senior leadership in assessing divisional performance, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Advises, counsels and trains field leadership in injury prevention and management of occupational incidents/injuries, contributing to a decrease of injuries and costs.

Directs the compilation of metrics, collaborating with the Insurance department for deployment of monthly, quarterly and special reports on Injury trends and data relating to frequency and severity of accidents..

Perform frequent site safety and security audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury at other sites

Spend time at the physical facilities and seek input from safety teams, Associates and leaders on safety program improvement opportunities. Ensure open communication on status of progress and resolution against these suggestions.

Provides loss prevention awareness and education to protect our employees, patients & visitors. Train/present to large group audiences, selling loss prevention, safety and security concepts.

Oversee design, development and directs Kindred’s Loss Prevention programs. Engages and promotes collaborative relationships with other corporate staff to achieve departmental goals.

Collaborates with the training departments of each Division to guide employees training, development, coaching, and motivation for effective safety and required regulatory performance.

Develops plans and operating goals in collaboration with senior management that ensures the integration of safety initiatives with other program efforts. (HR, Legal, and Risk management).

Works with Division policies and procedures specialists to advise on compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. Oversees monitoring of safety compliance.

Participates on committees to ensure broad application of loss prevention measures throughout the corporation. Participates in safety product evaluation and selection.

Serve as the company’s subject matter expert to advise, formulate and review the activities of multiple crisis management teams and plans to ensure that crisis and disaster plans are implemented consistently across the enterprise.

Partner with cross functional teams (Business Continuity, Risk Management, Information Security, Division Leadership) to develop and enhance integrated response capabilities for various business disruption scenarios

Implementation and establishment of emergency preparedness and response management programs for each division.

Leads and develops the security operations, threat and risk management, and emergency preparedness and response functions, providing operational leadership and input for security operations across the organization.

Identifies emerging security vulnerabilities, evaluates associated risks and threats, and designs and implements countermeasures as necessary.

Utilizes protective risk management and intelligence-led risk methodologies to plan and execute protection and security projects across the organization

Directs the staff in the evaluation, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of security technologies.

Interacts effectively with peers across the organization and external partners to identify and collaborate on initiatives to strengthen OPPD’s security programs

Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Must be able to collaborate with various business groups to identify problems and evaluate impact of solutions on the whole organization. Draw upon multiple and diverse sources for ideas and inspiration. Challenge paradigms; think expansively, combining ideas in unique ways and making connections between disparate ideas.

Must be a self starter, self directed and able to work independently.

Excellent knowledge and comprehension of Federal/State laws governing safety in healthcare operations. Knowledge of CFR 1910 (OSHA standards) and loss prevention strategy and methods.

Computer proficiency with Word, Excel and relevant related systems/software.

Corporate subject matter expert in Environmental Health & Safety, responsible for the provision of information, training and support to ensure compliance with current and new regulations and legislation

Possess a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and requirements.

Must be able to develop and manage requirements surrounding physical security associated processes and procedures, and be proficient in training staff to respond to physical security issues and workplace violence interventions

Must have experience leading incident response teams and managing incident response actions from preparation to recovery

Proven track record of operating as a strategic partner, supporting leadership with establishing, communicating, and executing on key initiatives to build a culture of security awareness, responsiveness and focus.

Approximate percent of time required to travel: >75%

Posistion may be located anywhere in the continental United States providing the candidate is within one hour of an International Airport or within one hour of a Kindred Hospital, or field office.

Must be able to manage time appropriately and have strong prioritaization skills.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Master’s Degree preferred in criminal justice, law enforcement, security, or safety or a closely related field.

Professional certification in security or risk management, such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP), Cerfied Safety Professional (CSP).

10+ years experience in healthcare safety, loss prevention, safety or security management.

Prior experience as a corporate safety or security leader a plus.

Proven success in development and implementation of successful safety and loss prevention programs.

Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment

Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.

Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
