Job Summary:
Do you want to join a growing team that is constantly evolving and applying capability for clients and advisors? Our Head of Digital Strategy is seeking a creative, self-motivated UX Lead to evolve and enhance the user experience while weaving in design best practices and leading a team of professionals. Position will start off remote, and we are open to nearly any US Location (NY/NJ, LA, SF, SJO, Florida, etc.) as well as Edinburgh, UK.
Core Responsibilities:
Provide user experience leadership in terms of researching, presenting, and implementing appropriate and effective user-centered design solutions
Provide thought leadership in terms of user experience strategy for major U.S. and/or international online programs
Leads research initiatives as required, including contextual research, competitive and expert reviews, and usability studies, and recommends which research techniques are most appropriate for projects
Provides mentorship and guidance for UX team members
Serves as Lead Architect on design projects and directs the efforts of UX Architects assigned to the project
Creates effective Web site and Web application user interfaces and information architectures
Employs deep knowledge of user-centered design best practices to create effective user interface solutions
Partners with cross-functional teams to achieve their Web-enabled business goals
Effectively communicates design intent to business partners and technical developers by authoring wireframe documents that detail interaction specifications
Detailed Responsibilities:
Direct iterative interface design process for browser-based user interfaces following usability best practices. Classify content, develop navigation recommendations and define workflows. Create or direct the creation of detailed wireframes to be used by developers in building the interface. Develop or direct the development of prototypes as necessary to communicate interaction design intent
Consult with U.S. and/or international business units to determine appropriate user-centered approach to Web and front end application navigation and interaction content. Lead the development of navigation and interaction content for proper flow and successful “scent of information.” Lead the development of usability specifications.
Lead the discovery and requirements gathering phase of projects, with direct responsibility for defining user needs via one-on-one interviews, surveys and similar methodologies. Conduct expert reviews of competitive sites and current FTI web pages and/or applications.
Create protocols and facilitate one-on-one usability studies, documenting and analyzing test results, making recommendations based on findings. Develop or direct the development of prototypes for use in usability studies.
Provide thought leadership in understanding new developments in the user experience field by visiting web sites and reading periodicals devoted to these topics. Visit competitor and other websites to be knowledgeable of financial services industry efforts in these fields. Pursue professional development and networking through professional organizations, conferences and/or seminars.
Actively mentor junior members of the UX team in the application of user-centered design techniques and usability best practices.
Requirements:
Passionate about producing standard-compliant web sites
Highly self-motivated to learn how emerging web technologies can enhance the user experience while weaving in design best practices.
Bachelor’s degree (or higher), with major in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Communications, Psychology, or equivalent. Evidence of continuing education in fields of usability and user-centered design.
Further Master’s degree, with major in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Communications, Psychology, or equivalent would be desirable
Four or more years experience creating Web-user interfaces and/or browser-based applications
Familiarity with user-centered design process and Web usability best practices.
Ability to provide thought leadership in the field of user-centered design and usability.
Self-starter with ability to collaborate with and guide clients as a consultant and to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal communication and project management skills
Familiarity with user research techniques, including surveys, focus groups, paper prototyping, and/or remote user testing.
Familiarity with financial topics and mutual fund industry experience preferred.
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Visio
Familiarity with prototyping tools such as Axure or iRise a plus
Familiarity with usability study monitoring tools such as Decible and Google Analytics a plus
Proven ability to develop insight into user needs and translate them into effective user interface designs that meet business goals.
Experience working on creative teams and collaborating to deliver creative interactive design
Functional supervision of user interface design efforts and usability studies by UX Architects
Experience leading project teams
Prior experience of translating business objectives into effective visual and interaction design
Experience of lead architect responsibilities on website design projects
