Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an opening for a Human Resources Assistant to join the Human Resources Division. As part of the Energy Sciences HR Field Team, this position will apply extensive knowledge of human resources practices and procedures under limited supervision to assigned divisions and user facilities. This position provides high-level customer service to the client base, including responding to a wide variety of requests and providing support in the areas of HR systems, HR processing, administrative support, and HR record keeping. The HR Assistant will independently plan, organize and prioritize their workload and interact with all levels of internal and external contacts to gather information, troubleshoot, and resolve issues. This critical role will use discretion and sound judgment in disseminating confidential employee information.

What You Will Do:
As first-line HR Point of Contact, provide high-level customer service for administrative HR functions to four scientific divisions in the Energy Sciences Area.
Act as a resource for employees and managers regarding procedure questions and assists in resolving human resources related inquiries. Use discretion, sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills to research and answer questions or resolve issues directly, or refer to the appropriate resources and contacts for resolution.
As the key HR team liaison for Energy Sciences, research information regarding hires, promotions, payroll problems, benefit issues, and visa issues.
Review human resources forms and documents for completeness.
Manage and maintain the tracking of probationary, term and limited appointments; manage and maintain Scientific case promotions.
Process personnel actions, including status changes, reclassifications, terminations, org transfers, and generate related standard correspondence with employees as appropriate.
Maintain HRIS records, including data entry and data integrity; generate and distribute recurring and ad hoc reports.
Maintain HR and personnel files and records and archive as needed.
Assist with the annual performance management process, including HRIS data entry, spreadsheet management, and data tracking.
Assist with the annual salary management process, including data entry and pay notice distribution.
Process Spot Bonus Awards and provide support for the Employee Recognition programs.
Assists with the Lab’s Rehire Retiree process
Serve as office coordinator for the ESAl HR team;Participate on Laboratory-wide HR work groups and committees as assigned.
What is Required:
High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years related experience, including prior comprehensive administrative work experience.
Strong computer skills with experience using HRIS software (PeopleSoft preferred), MS Office including Word and Excel, recruiting applicant tracking systems (Taleo preferred), and Google Suite, including Calendar, Docs, and Sheets.
General knowledge of typical HR policies and procedures, benefits, recruitment and systems, including experience processing HR transactions.
Working knowledge of federal and state employment regulations.
Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and ability to effectively utilize resources to conduct research.
Excellent communication and customer services skills with the ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
Experience providing HR administrative support in a research or academic environment.
Knowledge and understanding of Laboratory, Department of Energy (DOE), and/or UC policies and procedures pertaining to human resources.
Valid California Driver's License.
Advanced level experience with Peoplesoft, MS Office, Taleo, and/or Google Suite.

This is a full-time career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.
