GuildWorks is a creative design-build company based in Portland, OR, and with projects all over the country. We have a position currently open for a Lead Drafter.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
We are looking for a self-motivated draftsman who can work alongside a number of specialists at our company. The draftsman will form part of a multidisciplinary design & engineering team. To be successful as a Lead Drafter, you should stay up-to-date with new drafting software and advancements, using Rhino and Grasshopper. An exceptional draftsman will demonstrate impeccable attention to detail.
GOALS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Design for a wide range of tensile structure installations including permanent and temporary installations that consist of fabrics and other membrane materials, structural supports, custom hardware, and cable assemblies.
- Able to provide a dynamic approach to design, integrating principles of architecture and structural engineering with a creative perspective towards problem-solving.
- Collaborate in concept development with others using a variety of methods, from hand-drawn sketches to computer renderings and other mediums for visualization and communication.
- Ensures project goals are achieved according to GuildWorks’ overall vision and strategy.
- Create CD documents, including drawing sets and specifications for design approval and submittal through predesign, schematic design, design development, and construction phases including estimation, project planning, and value engineering.
- Contribute to institutional learning and growth through sharing.
- Contributes to the execution of individual projects, as well as the maintenance and evolution of standards for creative practice, technical documentation, and construction administration at GuildWorks.
- Follow and maintain procedures for file creation, management, collaboration, organization, and archives.
- Contribute to institutional learning and growth through sharing.

- Work directly with the Design Director to accommodate design changes and feedback throughout all phases of the project.
Other Key Contributions:
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work directly with clients
- Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and fabrication practices
- Knowledge of materials and methods of custom fabrication
- Must have strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Must follow company file management protocols.
- Must be active in the company project management process.
- Must be a hard-working & detail-oriented problem solver.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Principal, VP, Design Director, Design team, Project Management, Production, Fabrication, Installation
External: clients, engineers, subcontractors
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years experience working in Rhino, Grasshopper,
- 5-10 years experience working in a peer-review environment.
- Must have a great grasp on technical skills and visualizing in 3D.
- SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Revit experience is a plus.
COMPENSATION
Will include an hourly wage, participation in bonus opportunities as announced and other benefits as per Company policies
