Volunteer Coordinator for New Tutoring Program
The JCC's Literacy and Math Program is launching a new tutoring and homework help program
for schoolchildren living in a temporary housing facility for families in midtown. The program
will take place at the Manhattan Times Square Hotel on Wednesday evenings and midday on
Saturdays. The JCC will recruit volunteers who will work one-on-one with students who need
reading and math assistance, as well as homework help.
The volunteer coordinator will (i) take attendance at each session; (ii) work with any children
whose one-on-one volunteer partner is absent for the session, (iii) monitor and support
student/tutor engagement, (iv) distribute snack and (v) dismiss students and confer with
parents/guardians, as necessary, at the end of each session. A representative of the shelter also
will be onsite at each session.
The commitment is twice a week on Wednesdays, 5:45 – 7:45 p.m. and Saturdays, 10:45a.m. –
12:45 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27th - Wednesday, May 15th. The Manhattan Times Square Hotel is
located at located at 790 7th Avenue, between W. 51st – W. 52nd Street, New York, NY. The
salary is $ 25 per hour.
