Summer Academy @UGAserves to support middle and high school students’ development by creating an immersive UGA experience through our academic camps. Approximately 170-200 students attend various camp programs each week throughout the summer in the areas of art, science, technology, and more. As an Instructor for the University Preparation Camp, you are expected to:
- Develop age-appropriate curriculum to educate students on the college application process and university resources available to students such as financial aid, study abroad, internships, etc.
- Educate students on best practices regarding personal essays, interviews, resumes, and test prep
- Facilitate University Prep camp for up to 20 campers, age(s) 16-17, June 5 –9, June 26 –30, 2023
Job Requirements:
- Display professionalism through punctuality and positive communication with campers, parents/guardians, staff members, and other instructors
- Demonstrate knowledge of and execute policies and procedures of Summer Academy and UGA
- Experience or knowledge in college counseling, advisement, education, admissions, and/or academic support is required
- Experience working with and delivering content to students age(s) 16-17 is preferred
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate appropriate depth of knowledge to successfully facilitate course curriculum
- Establish and maintain a standard of excellence through presenting content which appropriately challenges campers and introduces new areas of study/career paths
- Encourage collaboration and communication among campers through meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities
- Manage cross-departmental collaboration and coordination with organizations on and off campus as needed
- Complete the required UGA Protection of Minors training
- Abide by all applicable UGA Human Resources Policies and Procedures, including any requirement for a background check
- Communicate supplies needed, course schedule, and updates to the Camp Director in a timely manner
- Execute emergency operations procedures in situations of conflict or emergency
- Practice positive communication with campers, parents/guardians, staff members, and other instructors
- Proactively address campers’ conflicts and concerns
