Founded in 1943, the School of Public Health has a 75+ year history of defending health as a human right in our local and global communities. We are fueled by a deep commitment to social and environmental justice, scientific inquiry and discovery, and community-engaged action.
The School's mission is to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable. We do this by preparing the next generation of public health changemakers through preeminent educational programs; transformational research that sheds new light on the public health threats and opportunities of today and tomorrow; and by translating new discoveries into practice through partnerships that address the critical health needs and inequities in our diverse communities. The School is a world-renowned institution and widely regarded as the birthplace of social epidemiology and community-based participatory research. Our research broadly focuses on the interaction of biological, behavioral and environmental determinants of health.
The School's more than 18,000 graduates can be found working throughout the world, both in the public and private sectors, tackling urgent public health problems such as climate change, pandemics, chronic diseases, and social inequality. The School annually enrolls approximately 740 graduate students, including students in the online MPH program, and 425 undergraduate students a year in the upper-division major.
Coordinates the senate/non-senate academic search and appointment process, including placement of ads, drafting of search plans, conducting the initial screening of materials, supporting search committees, submitting search reports, and completing/submitting appointment cases.
Develops and manages procedures that support the review, analysis, and processing of HR actions for all academic appointees including the complex peer-review process (e.g., merit, promotion, retention).
Oversees and manages multiple divisions' and programs' academic recruitments, reappointments, salary setting, compensation administration, and employee benefits. Act as the liaison between SPH and campus departments (e.g., APO, BRS, OFEW). Advises the faculty and research administrators on appropriate academic title and pay rate guidelines (e.g., summer salary, summer sessions, recalls, MLAs).
Analyzes and interprets guidelines and policies to provide advice and counsel to academic appointees on issues such as compensation, payroll, work-eligibility, dual-campus appointments, FSREP, leaves of absence and health benefits considerations. Provides strategic advice and counsel to division heads and program directors by analyzing and interpreting system-wide and campus policies, collective bargaining agreements, academic HR procedures and practices. Counsels senate and non-senate faculty and other academic appointees concerning moderate to complex work-related problems.
Identifies and leads process improvements; recommends and customizes training needs for diverse constituencies on topics related to Academic HR.
Participates in trainings and other professional development opportunities. May supervise part-time work-study student assistants.

3+ years experience providing academic human resources and/or human resources support within higher education institution(s).
In-depth knowledge of and ability to interpret/apply University and School policies and procedures that govern academic HR.
Thorough knowledge of system-wide and campus policies, union contracts, procedures, and practices that govern academic HR administration.
Thorough knowledge of University and School goals, priorities, and values and the legal and human implications of decisions.
Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work with a wide range of faculty and staff, as well as communicate effectively on complex issues, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively both independently and in collaboration with others at varying levels of the organization.
Strong skills in analyses and complex problem-solving, aligned with a strong service orientation.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines; ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail.
Ability to analyze complex issues, develop project scope and solutions, give professional advice to senior administrators, and make critical decisions regarding personnel.
Ability to use high-level discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality; political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the School and campus.
Excellent ability to communicate solutions to problems with academic appointees and their representatives.
Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address complex issues and present nuanced analyses.
Thorough knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs, including new office technology tools.
General knowledge of visa policies and procedures and issues related to non-US citizens and work authorization policies.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Salary & Benefits
