Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr Vice President of People, Services and Communications and serving as an integral member of the senior management team the Sr. Director of Corporate Communications will be responsible for leading the function and balancing Otsuka’s Corporate Marketing, North American Pharmaceuticals Business strategy & communications, while balancing our Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) agenda. The Sr Director of Corporate Communications will have a full appreciation and understanding of the value that culture plays within the Otsuka organization which has been built on 100 years of history of success.

The incumbent will need to unlearn many past practices to fully allow for the uniqueness of Otsuka and our complexity to be fully realized in the Corporate Communications function. Critical to the success of this role, he/she will embody the characteristics of Humility, Perseverance and Creativity. He/she should be a patient and a gradual learner of the Otsuka history and Culture.

The functional skills and deliverables include, but are not limited to the following:

Develop a compelling and creative approach to enhance, communicate and engage our constituents in our Corporate Strategy and narrative that has a multi-year platform for success and key metrics and measurements to determine success.
Lead efforts to enhance the Otsuka Corporate Brand in the external marketplace through a detailed and deliberate public relations strategy. This allows for amplifying the value of our portfolio of products as well as the Corporate narrative.
Engage Otsuka-people through sharing information that provides information via various alternative solutions which support our brand, our Company leadership and the direction of the Company. This must include a variety of print, social media, video, web design, face-to-face and creative solutions that enhance the employment experience and improve our transparency with colleagues.
Build, launch and optimize the Otsuka Digital/Social Media platform to ensure data and analytics are informing our communications efforts as well as provides Otsuka with improvements in our social media listening and feedback to learn and modify our efforts and initiatives.
Enhance the Otsuka Cares value proposition through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts across the enterprise of Otsuka Companies worldwide.

Leading a team of professionals who develop creative solutions, advance our Company strategies and continually manage the internal and external messaging and corporate brand on behalf of Otsuka-People and our Company.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, communications, public relations or related field
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior management role either in-house, with an agency or a combination of the two
5 years’ experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications professionals
Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building cross functional and international relationships
Extensive successful writing and editing experience with a variety of print and online communications media
Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization’s mission and goals
Experience in directing the planning, writing, editing, and production of press releases and marketing literature
Innovative and creative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Self-reliant, good problem solver results oriented
Ability to make decisions in a fluid and ambiguous environment and anticipate future needs
Excellent and persuasive communicator
Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance, and administration initiatives
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior leaders

External board memberships or leadership positions strongly desired
