DLR Group’s Energy team has an opening for a Commissioning Engineer.
Preferred Locations: Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA
All other locations considered: Any DLR Group office (REF: https://www.dlrgroup.com/about/locations/)
In this position, you will be the client leader for multiple Commissioning projects across DLR Group’s core sectors. This means working with a team of design engineers and architects of all levels to deliver high quality projects to our valued clients, and to grow and deepen those relationships. You will be our clients’ independent authority to verify design, construction, and operation of the buildings per client requirements and based on industry best practices. You will be part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary building optimization team delivering efficient educational, commercial, and municipal buildings of all sizes and complexities, in the US and beyond. The Commissioning Engineer will frequently need to travel to site to perform thorough inspections – expect to be traveling 6-8 days per month. This position offers potential for rapid growth as we expand our commissioning team nationally.
The successful candidate will:
Act as a project and client leader for a variety of new construction commissioning projects
Work on a variety of monitoring-based commissioning (Skyspark) projects.
Work with Integrated Design teams of Architects, Engineers and specialty designers, providing commissioning expertise on projects across DLR Group’s core sectors.
Manage project execution and client expectations to adhere to budget, schedule, and scope
Develop communicate and update project plans including information such as project objectives, technical specifications, schedules, and staffing.
Conduct Commissioning site visits and travel as needed.
Submit project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Provide training and mentorship to staff and emerging engineers.
Perform a QA/QC review of the project deliverables.
Work with marketing and business development teams to develop scope and fee for new project opportunities.
Run projects independently with regular check-ins with a broader Commissioning team.
Have strong technical skills and a solid understanding of engineering concepts and advanced problem-solving skills expected of a bachelor level engineering degree or above.
Have familiarity with use of portable monitoring/metering equipment.
Be goal oriented with strong skills in problem solving, creativity, and attention to detail.
Be collaborative, client-focused and a clear communicator who can interact professionally with clients and on-site staff and enhance our reputation as an industry leader.
Be detail oriented, organized, and able to execute a quality commissioning process.
Possess a sense of self-direction and the ability to manage your own time and aid others to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget.

Minimum 5 years of full-time experience in Commissioning building systems.
A strong understanding of the Commissioning process for New Construction and Major Renovations.
A strong understanding of Existing Building Commissioning, Operations and Maintenance, specifically with energy use and indoor environmental quality.
Understanding of applicable design codes, design standards and specification requirements, and ability to interpret them.
Have a strong understanding of Building Automation Systems.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Commissioning certification with a nationally recognized professional body is a plus (ACG, BCA or ASHRAE).
Familiarity or a willingness to learn more about using SkySpark as a Connected-Commissioning/Monitoring-based Commissioning tool.
