The Senior Transportation Manager is responsible for developing the transportation strategy and execution across all modes within the US, Canada and Inbound Global freight from EMEA, APAC and Latin America. This person will focus on building a multi-year carrier relationship management roadmap to continue to build our relationships with the best partners for our business, as well as, influence internal and external partners through effective negotiation.
This position drives financial budgets/forecasts in partnership with our Finance team for the US. Overall drive service for replenishment of finished goods, raw materials and (WIP) intermediates from Plant/Sourcing to our Customer facing DCs. Will partner with our internal team on driving best practices for our systems (TMS, Visibility, BI Analytics, Freight Audit, Freight Pay, Procurement) and other Transportation projects for SBUs and is accountable for ensuring consistency of supply crucial to save and sustain lives. He/She will monitor performance of our carrier partners on a weekly and monthly basis for effective exception management and share best practices and idea sharing as well within the region and across the globe with other Supply Chain partners.
**This position can be remote if the candidate does not live in the Chicagoland area**
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage carriers responsible for replenishment spend of $160M+ across LTL, IML, TL and Parcel modes
Negotiate with carrier partners effectively to drive a strong relationship and to ensure we meet or exceed our budget targets
Have an in depth understanding of Global and US Transportation market, trends and developments to be able to present any risks and opportunities to Supply Chain leadership
Provide input on long-term strategic goals such as Global TMS strategy, Network Strategy and Transportation Optimization
Lead Procurement Events with Carriers, Brokers and Commercial fleet providers to identify greatest opportunities and execute with all partners
Attend Transportation Market Events (Webinars, Conferences, Shipper/Carrier Events, etc.) and build learnings into the future roadmap of our Transportation strategy
Retain, develop and grow individual talent on the team
Drive continuous improvement culture with a pipeline of ideas for service improvements, cost reduction, efficiency and/or optimization of our replenishment network
Ability to quickly prioritize work across the team to drive the greatest impact to the organization
Collaborate with Commercial, Quality and Procurement teams in developing cross-functional goals with clear objectives to improving Baxter’s bottom line
Present and influence Supply Chain senior management
Strong leadership skills including leading cross-functional projects with broad scope and impact to Baxter
Complete, in-depth understanding of all aspects of Supply Chain including profitability, cost impacts, inventory turns and service levels
Strong communication skills (with team, peers, and upper management) and ability to develop rapport with other functional leaders inside Baxter and Supply base
Thinks strategically, embraces change, challenges status quo and makes recommendations for improvements
Requires the ability to influence the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations
Strong development skills for developing top talent
Analytical mindset for solving complex across multiple teams with a clear fact-based solution with the most optimal result for Baxter
Demonstrated experience in leading complex negotiations with carrier partners and other suppliers
Ability to communicate across multiple levels of the organization
Drives a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across the functions to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to meet budget requirements
Agile mindset to constantly adapt to a changing environment
Strong proficiency with Transportation Management System (TMS), BI Analytics Tool and Visibility software

Collaborates closely with peers across all Supply Chain teams
Education and Experience
BS in Operational/Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or similar degree
6+ years related experience
Strong proficiency in TMS, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other MS Tools
