As Director of AEO’s Outbound Operations, you will manage the Global Outbound Operations teams. You will provide regular, on-going guidance and support in order to drive excellence in the annual movement of 246M+ units including 25M+ parcel shipments direct to customer and non-merchandise deliveries. You will be responsible for continuously assessing and optimizing logistics processes, assets, services and people in order to meet AEO’s operational goals. In addition, you will inspire your team and lead efforts to deliver sound operating results; exceeding customer expectations, optimizing spend, delivering innovation and developing a talented team.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Leading all outbound operational actions (i.e., parcel, store delivery, returns and non-merchandise) to ensure the successful movement of goods from our DCs directly to our stores and customer
  • Continuously collaborating with the Sr. Director Global Outbound Logistics, across the broader Global Supply Chain team as well as with various cross-functional partners to effectively service internal/external customers; delivering all product on time and in a cost effective manner with minimal delays or service failures
  • Driving the parcel transportation strategy and all execution-related processes; designing/developing new delivery services and networks to support Company/departmental strategy (i.e., daily delivery, in-market network, last mile, chase, etc.)
  • Prioritizing transportation-related initiatives to optimize speed and service to our internal/external customers; translating strategy into a plan to meet operational and financial requirements on a consistent basis
  • Driving operational excellence in the outbound operations; creating ongoing analysis utilizing transportation, freight audit and carrier databases to track underlying causes of parcel trends and providing recommendations/solutions for improvements
  • Effectively communicating network/carrier capacity needs to the business and ensuring carrier requirements and services are in-line with contractual commitments; collaborating with the Sr. Director of Global Outbound Logistics to analyze market conditions to identify and proactively respond to challenges
  • Maximizing efficiency by leveraging strong working relationships with key carrier personnel; ensuring timely communication of transportation-related disruptions and their impact to AEO’s business; working proactively to provide solutions in order to mitigate delays and sales risk
  • Engaging and collaborating with key carrier partners and AEO teams (Global Inbound Logistics, Global Distribution Operations, Store Operations, Finance, Customer Service, etc.) to lead strategies for cost, service and customer promise advantages; understanding various pain points and working towards solutions that better the Company and customer
  • Developing and delivering on the 5 year outbound strategy by working with the VP of Logistics and the Sr. Director of Global Outbound to achieve all goals and deliverables
  • Ensuring excellent performance from carriers through robust report carding and data analysis; partnering with the Director of Carrier Relations to mitigate/address issues where needed
  • Partnering across the Global Outbound leadership team (Sr. Director of Global Outbound; Sr. Manager of Outbound Planning & Optimization; Sr. Manager of Emerging Markets; Sr. Manager – Customer Promise) on ensuring solid day-to-day operational execution as well as the delivery of strategic projects to help support ongoing growth for the Company
  • On-going development and coaching of the Outbound Operations team to ensure that business needs are being met in accordance with key performance indicators; supporting and coaching managers and their teams in their daily activities and providing direction / feedback as needed; ensuring clear goals are being communicated and team members are recognized for their efforts
  • Continuously optimize the flow of goods, reduce costs and drive reliability of speed and efficiency in the network. Implement new delivery strategies like same day, next day and 2 day delivery models
  • Executing the business operations roadmap by constantly challenging and bringing in new and exciting ways to operate the business
  • In partnership with the Sr. Director of Outbound Operations and the Director of Carrier Relations, driving the business forward and optimizing carrier performance by reviewing, communicating, enforcing, and enhancing internal KPIs and external report cards
  • Developing an expansive network of industry contacts to retain a constant pulse on market conditions and competition; collaborating with the Global Inbound team to ensure smooth transition of cargo into all markets
  • Managing and delivering on speed and budget commitments by finding and executing alternate transportation modes as required
  • Developing risk motivational plans for every market and every point of failure; flawlessly executing plans during times of distress – geopolitical, weather, union or seasonal changes
  • Developing and implementing new processes/enhancements to facilitate greater efficiencies within the department; creating continuous improvement initiatives for greater efficiency and cost savings
  • Partnering with carriers on strategic planning including but not limited to pricing, space allocation, systems integrations, effective routings, and best practices
  • Fostering collaborative relationships with various leaders and serving as a role model leader for the organization; displaying thought leadership and alignment with the Company’s strategies and core values.
  • Driving supply chain efficiency/effectiveness as well as solutions to meet ever-changing customer service expectations; pushing innovative solutions for the betterment of our Customers as well as in support of the overall business strategy.
  • Additional responsibilities, travel and projects as assigned
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics, or related field
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in supply chain management, extensive experience working with 3PL providers
  • Prior managerial/supervisory experience required
  • Proven record of successful third party negotiations
  • Demonstrated ability of managing cost performance and supply/demand forecasting
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred
  • Certified in Supply Chain Management (CSCM) or LEAN/Six Sigma preferred
  • Travel is required. Experience in international travel preferred, position will be expected to travel
  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, & planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
