Job Description:

The Reliability Growth & Sustaining Engineering Manager (RGSE Manager) is responsible for deploying new process control, improvements to maintenance best practices, and component redesign based upon predictive algorithms and data analysis developed from live/historical operational data. The RGSE Manager will use these methods to improve reliability and reduce the cost of operating Shell’s zero emissions hydrogen mobility refueling infrastructure globally. Current refueling infrastructure requires significant improvement in operational and maintenance practices, in addition to component reliability improvement through redesign. The RGSE Manager is responsible for acquiring all necessary data from Shell and partner refueling systems worldwide during operation, to develop data products and predictive algorithms which have a direct impact on reducing unplanned downtime and reducing maintenance costs. The RGSE Manager will work with industry and government institutions to improve designs of unreliable components based upon the observations and experience gained through the capture and processing of data from the field. Finally, the RGSE Manager will be responsible for setting future availability targets & costs for maintenance contracts based upon observed data.

The RGSE Manager will be part of the Hydrogen Product and Technology Development team, reporting to the Global Hydrogen Product Manager. While the RGSE Manager has a core role and responsibility, all team members help when necessary with other tasks such as developing new product offerings for market entry into new refueling scenarios, development of new consumer products, and system analysis/modeling to name a few. We are a high performing, and collaborative team, with global exposure to the developing hydrogen mobility and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle markets.


  • Develop and execute a reliability growth management plan for Shell’s global hydrogen refueling infrastructure
  • Support Product Management and Contracts and Procurement to set data-based availability and cost targets for future years
  • Develop consortiums, as appropriate, to solve specific component reliability problems through test/re-design/R&D/product management
  • Work with subject matter experts (internal and external) to implement, maintain, and utilize an IT infrastructure that provides near-real time observation and capture of all sensor data on all of Shell’s operated hydrogen mobility infrastructure globally
  • Work with internal and external subject matter experts to store and use captured data to develop predictive algorithms, heuristics, and other data products to improve reliability and reduce cost of operating Shell’s global hydrogen mobility infrastructure
  • Support Operations to troubleshoot failures in real time, where root causes are design related; lead an effort to resolve the problem
  • Work with the global supply chain to feedback known issues, influencing manufacturers and maintenance organizations towards appropriate corrective action in collaboration with Product Management and Operations

Professional Qualifications:

  • S. or B.Eng degree required in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related program
  • The following experience is required:
  • 5 years in an operational engineering environment, 10 years preferred.
  • Developing and implementing predictive maintenance methods, including algorithm development (or related experience)
  • Practical engineering knowledge and experience in reliability growth of mechanical, electrical, and industrial control/software systems
  • Implemented or worked with remote data acquisition infrastructure, preferably on a global scale
  • Articulate, with good written and presentation skills
  • Assertive, high energy, and defaulting to action
  • Quick thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
  • Team player
