Family Outreach Educator

Under the supervision of the Project Lift Program Coordinator, the Family Outreach Educator will be responsible for coordinating the intake process including, but not limited to, recruiting families, registering all applicants, referring participating families to appropriate human service agencies, providing support for families, encouraging parental involvement with Project Lift, serving as a liaison between home and school, assisting with the planning, implementation, and oversight of the daily activities of Project Lift and other duties as required. The Family Outreach Educator will maintain an office in all of designated elementary locations as well as Franklin’s main office.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist Project Lift Coordinator with the implementation of all facets of Project Lift according to the research based goals and objectives of Franklin Community Center and Project Lift
  • Coordinate intake process including but not limited to: recruiting students/families, registering all applicants, notifying school and families of acceptance into Project Lift
  • Record, maintain, and report Project Lift statistical records and Project Lift database
  • Refer Project Lift families to appropriate human service agencies and provide support needed for families to obtain these services while maintaining records of these referrals
  • Assist with the interpretation of services and policies of Project Lift to families and help them carry out Project Lift recommendations according to the family’s needs
  • Assist families with coordination of transportation to and from Project Lift and additional services
  • Assist families with meeting basic needs: food, clothing, personal safety, shelter, holiday assistance, school supplies, health insurance, etc.
  • Remain in regular contact with families and encourage parental involvement in Project Lift
  • Coordinate and implement Project Lift family events focusing on education and current needs of enrolled families
  • Provide summer camp opportunities for Project Lift participants and siblings including but not limited to: solicitation of funds, negotiation of costs, arranging transportation, proper attire, etc.
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue with community professionals around social and prevention issues relating to youth services, networks and other providers
  • Assist with participation in fundraising and public relations activities of Project Lift and Franklin Community Center, Inc.
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue with school staff and act as a point of contact for school staff regarding current Project Lift participants
  • Maintain office time at designated elementary schools
  • Assist schools in contacting parents when necessary with current Project Lift participants
  • Act as a liaison between home and school, sit in on parent/teacher conferences as requested, encourage positive school interactions during traditional school hours
  • Assist Associate Director with fundraising efforts
  • Perform other activities as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, or other field considered appropriate by the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Three years of relevant experience in child development, individual and group behavior, and recent developments in the field of social welfare
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License

  • Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults, especially those families of low socio-economic status or racial minority
  • Knowledge of child development, individual and group behavior, and the effect of social/environmental factors on families
  • Evidence of emotional maturity, physical and emotional stability, and judgment to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to participate as a team player and coordinate family activities
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate projects
  • Ability to gather, analyze, evaluate, and report data from projects undertaken

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $26,000.00 to $30,000.00 /year
