We are looking for talented engineers to join us and make a meaningful impact on Starbucks technology, people, and culture. As a lead engineer on the digital workplace team, you will be responsible for building highly scalable, cohesive solutions communicating status with stakeholders.
As a Lead engineer, you will be part of a nimble, cohesive engineering team, working on core services; building the digital platform that serves store facing applications. As an engineering lead, you will be responsible for system design, technology choices and ensuring uptimes within our SLAs.
In this role, working with our product managers and architects – creating solutions that enables you to smile when interacting with technology.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Technical Design and Implementation
Collaborates in planning, decomposing, estimating, scheduling, prioritization, and resource allocation exercises.
Lead in the solution design process: requirements gathering and backlog refinement, and guides systems approach, helps with project initiation, contributes to functional design, and leads technical design and development.
Develops software solutions to business problems. The solution will be targeted for installation in 6,500+ retail locations in North America. Leverages established design patterns and coding standards. Builds solutions that are secure, durable, scalable, flexible, and accessible and proactively mitigate against production support issues.
Coordinate with QA Leads to ensure automation and test coverage per platform capabilities and requirements. Establishes and maintains continuous build and integration testing on applicable platforms and assists with manual system and integration testing efforts.
Be the single point of contact for all engineering needs for the platform.
Lead technical solutions on the Digital Workplace platform. This consultative part of the role explores the business capability portfolio to guide and direct solution options to ensure health of the platform.
Contributes to the vision, roadmap, and platform investments needed to take our business solutions to the next level. Identifies, influences, and helps prioritizes innovative platform opportunities, as well as technical debt, with regular reviews, creating programs and solutions to raise the level of the platform offering or remediate systemic operational problems.
Partners with cross functional teams, such as Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, QA and Network teams, to strengthen and elevate the platform from a technology perspective. Successfully drives designs and solutions through enterprise processes and governance to ensure compliant, secure, and supportable solutions.
Deepens vendor relationships to understand and influence vendor product offerings and roadmaps, improves support engagement and gains insight into technology trends.
Contributes to the platform development community by providing input, content and feedback on design patterns, coding standards, and shared libraries.
Ensure platform uptimes and SLAs are strictly adhered to.
Coaches and mentor’s other engineers on the team
Exhibits leadership courage with respectful, articulate positions to influence critical technology solutions.
Negotiates, facilitates, and influences others to gain alignment and mutually agreeable outcomes in complex and ambiguous situations. Socializes technical approach and design to project team and corresponding dependent teams.
Be an evangelist for best practices and process.
Assist in expanding the team by participating in hiring and onboarding processes.
10+ years of developing and supporting Application Development
Demonstrate unrelentless customer focus
Proven experience in a dynamic, agile environment
Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
Curiosity to learn and improve
Strong knowledge of CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, OO design and patterns
Demonstrated ability to foster effective collaboration across multiple technical teams and business stakeholders
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Act in accordance with Starbucks guiding Principle
10+ years of software development experience with Object Oriented Languages (C# or Java)
3+ years of relevant and recent experience with Node.JS frameworks for API Development including
3+ years of experience developing on modern cloud platform
Significant experience creating GraphQL endpoint
Significant experience on API Gateways (APIGEE, Azure API Gateway or equivalent)
SME experience designing solutions in leveraging SQL and No-SQL based solutions
Expert in SOA, REST, Microservice Pattern
Expert in designing and implementing scalable, distributed, performant and secure systems
Significant experience in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Kaizen)
Execute in a CI/CD and DevOps environment
