The Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit performing arts organization founded in 1973 that manages all activities of the Kronos Quartet (www.kronosquartet.org). KPAA commissions, performs, and records contemporary repertoire, tours internationally for five months annually, presents an annual Festival in San Francisco, and delivers a rich education program, both locally and while on tour. The Kronos Quartet is a celebrated leader in creative programming across many genres of music, often in collaboration with other musicians and artists.

ROLE: Accountant

SCOPE: Ongoing Accounting and Finance Support one day a week

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enter, process and file Accounts Payables (bills, contractors, employee credit cards), cash balance review
  • Enter Accounts Receivables (Invoicing as requested, recording earned revenue, donations, pledges, and grants)
  • Bank Account Reconciliations, Balance Sheet account reconciliation
  • Payroll Services – enter bi-monthly payrolls (prepared/submitted by client), 401k payments, enter and reconcile section 125 cafeteria plan
  • Insurance –renewal review for Workers Comp, General Liability, D&O
  • Preparation of annual audits
  • Assist in budget creation and updates in collaboration with program staff and management
  • Assist in Human Resources management and compliance
  • Maintain financial security by ensuring best practice internal controls (database backups, updating and implementing policies)
  • Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements and regulations by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed action
  • Assist as needed in preparation of government census and reporting
  • Prepare and coordinate reports in a timely manner as follows:

*Monthly management: Profit and Loss, Variance to Budget, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet

*Financials and documentation for external audit firm – Year End close out

*Federal and State annual tax info for Accountant (Form 990)

*1099’s and annual 1096

*Board of Directors quarterlies

*Grant applications and reports

*Project budget and reconciliation with project managers, ad hoc reporting

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years’ experience with full cycle bookkeeping
  • Proficiency with GAAP and FASB compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of Nonprofit Accounting
  • Excellent knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop (working with classes, invoicing etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, Google Drive/Sheets
  • Maintains confidential information, attention to detail, deadline oriented,
  • Data Entry Management, Time Management, General Math Skills

COMPENSATION: Hourly rate negotiable
