People & Culture Generalist
The People and Culture Generalist will serve as a key member of the People & Culture team supporting talent acquisition, employee relations, and employee engagement.
The Generalist will collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Specialist to fulfill recruitment needs, conduct community outreach through career fairs and campus recruiting, working in concert with site and program leadership. The Generalist will take an active role within the team in building and implementing employee engagement strategies, using the annual employee engagement survey and other internal initiatives. Collaborating with leadership, the Generalist will administer policy regarding employment matters in alignment of the Center’s mission.
Major Responsibilities and Key Tasks
- Collaborate with local schools, colleges and universities and participate and host job fairs & open houses.
- Recruit, interview, assist with scheduling of interviews with hiring manager, and complete the hiring process for staff across the Center.
- May support the forecasting of talent needs and develop staffing strategies to identify talent within and outside the organization.
- Partner with the Talent Acquisition Specialist in addressing talent gaps via external recruitment efforts.
- Develop strategies to advance the use of the HR/Payroll/ATS system to streamline the recruitment and onboarding process.
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with the organization’s policies.
- Develop and promote feedback mechanisms for employees to influence the continuous improvement of the organization and its culture.
- May partner within the People and Culture department to develop and coach individual managers, teams, and employees.
- May participate in the planning of all-staff events and conferences, as well as staff appreciation events.
- Work with senior management and direct managers to ensure focus on creating and maintaining a culture valuing DEIJ.
- Implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures to improve the overall effectiveness of the organization, including systems to support compliance with all federal, state, and local employment practices as well as matters of affirmative action and policies with respect to sexual harassment.
- Identify and ensure compliance with legal requirements and governmental reporting affecting the HR function.
- Hybrid schedule, three days in person, including time at each flagship site as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college/university in Human Resources, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP/ SCP or S/PHR certification.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Strong understanding of current talent acquisition strategies, trends and technology.
- Knowledge of and experience with varied HR/ATS systems.
- Minimum of three to five years’ experience in talent management, human resources/employee relations, or business development.
- Connection to the Center’s mission through education, work, or volunteer experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong consultative skills with experience in advising leaders on people and culture matters.
- Ability to build positive and effective relationships with a broad and diverse set of stakeholders that positions the Center as a trusted partner.
