Job Summary

Denver Health & Hospital Authority (DHHA) in the heart of thriving downtown, Denver, Colorado is recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Adult Urgent Care Clinic (AUCC).

Well-established, cohesive group features a full staff of more than 50 MDs, APP’s, RNs and EMTs. We offer opportunities for teaching, a high-functioning EMR (EPIC) and a collaborative clinical environment. The Adult Urgent Care sees and manages more than 40,000 patients annually and has an admission rate of 7%. The AUCC is co-located with the Emergency Department and has access to all resources available in the hospital (labs, imaging, specialists, admissions, etc).

Under general supervision, the APP operates independently to provide primary healthcare to patients. This autonomous practice includes physical exams, diagnosis, and the development of patient-centered treatment plans. As appropriate for clinical setting provides treatment for illness, injury, emergencies, pre-natal care, inpatient follow-up, as well as routine testing and screening. Orders tests, performs procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment, refers to specialists as needed, and writes prescriptions. Must function well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including listening to others and considering novel and unconventional approaches to problem solving. Be highly self-motivated, organized, and capable of using his/her time efficiently in a fluid variable clinic structure where standard work and process are established or modified in a dynamic clinical setting.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant. Experience: One year related clinical experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of medical principals, procedures, and community resources. Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to prepare accurate reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Certificate/License/Registration: Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR. Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant; must register supervising physician upon assignment with the Colorado Board of Medical Examiner’s. Depending on the needs of the assigned area incumbents in this job title may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
