Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Department Head, provides ON-SITE evening, late night and weekend support to young adults in the North County Transitional Housing Programs including supervision of participant and visitor activities, enforcing program rules, crisis intervention and responding to maintenance emergencies to ensure a safe and clean living environment for participants.

What a Caretaker does:
Ensure a clean, well-maintained and safe facility
Ensure residents maintain safe and adequate living environment in accordance with Community Care Licensing standards
Respond to emergency calls from residents when the office is closed
Perform apartment cleanliness check at all YMCA leased apartments on a bi-weekly basis and as required by the Program Director
Perform night checks
Ensure delivery of consistent levels of service, including coordination with all program staff
Maintain agency records
Communicate effectively with Department Head, co-workers, participants, families, and other service providers
Communicate with Department Head and Social Work Case Manager regarding any intervention issues with residents
Available for participant check in if desired by resident
Provide crisis intervention, situational and group mediation to participants after hours as needed
Coordinate emergency evacuation procedures when necessary
Coordinate resolution of maintenance emergencies after hours
Daily Oral and written Communication with Department Head and Transitional Housing staff regarding nightly and weekly happenings with all residents
Complete necessary documentation of critical incidents in a timely manner
Attend staff and case planning meetings as required and participate in supervision with the Department Head
Participate in move in procedures with new resident as needed
Transport participants in YMCA vehicle to and from activities and appointments as needed
Practice non-aggressive defensive driving techniques
Operate YMCA vehicles in safe manner
Ability to work effective with others in alignment with the YMCA 4 Core Values

What we look for in a Caretaker:
Must be 21 years of age or older
Bachelor's degree in social science, psychology or a related field is preferred
Ability to live in a YMCA apartment for the duration of employment as a Caretaker, rent and utilities paid for by YFS
Experience working with young adults (ages 16-24) in a residential program required
Familiar with the operations of a transitional living program preferred
Experience with Independent Living Skills issues preferred
Basic computer knowledge and skills
Must be able to work as part of a team
Must be self-aware, flexible, adaptable and teachable
Valid CA Driver's License
Good driving record
Current CDL H6 print-out (must be dated within 30 days of application.)
Pass pre-employment drug testing
Pass vehicle proficiency exam
Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions
A physical exam and negative TB test results
Must be an adult role model with the ability to effectively set limits and function in crisis-oriented and high stress situations
Visual and auditory ability to observe critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
Ability to adequately observe participants activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures
Must possess the ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills
Must be available to the program during evening and late night hours, including weekends and holidays.
Current CPR and First Aid certification required and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute
