The position is responsible for the overall health and stability of the FiberLight Network. The Field Service Technician (FST) will perform network and customer equipment installations, analyze and repair network elements and respond to customer service failures. The FST will also be responsible for managing contractor quality on projects where outsource labor is utilized. The FST will responsible for inspecting contractor craftsmanship and ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with FiberLight standard installation procedures.

Required Skills:
  • Network and Customer Equipment Installation to include testing of circuits
  • Use of Fiber Optic Testing Equipment
  • Analyze Fiber Optic Testing Results
  • Use of Fiber Optic Splicing Machines and associated hardware
  • Perform Fiber Splicing as required
  • Perform Scheduled Network Maintenance Activity including Monthly Preventative Maintenance (PMI) of network elements
  • Perform DC Power Installation for Network Elements
  • Perform Installation and Maintenance of associated Micro-Wave (MW) Equipment
  • Network Outage Management for Emergency Restoration and Disaster Recovery of network assets, Interface with state and local permitting agencies,
DOTs, and other activities as required
  • Management of permitting, contractors, project materials, inspectors, and all elements associated with Damage Claims and Forced Relocations
  • Company Vehicle Management including scheduled maintenance, monthly inspections, and fuel expense management
  • Inventory Management and Control via Bar Cloud
  • Warehouse Management
  • Relies on instructions and guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Provide after-hours On-Call support as required
  • Other duties as so assigned
  • Must possess knowledge of AC/DC power
  • Must possess a working knowledge of all associated test equipment
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge all MS platforms
  • Must possess knowledge associated with Ethernet, SONET, and DWDM
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
  • Ability to understand mapping programs and key identifiers in a fiber optic network, read and utilize GPS units, and record network positioning
  • Ability to prepare, splice, and test FOC via use of power meters / light source, OTDR and reporting requirements and fusion splice equipment
  • Knowledge of “Call Before You Dig” rules and regulations as they apply to a network utility provider
  • Knowledge of Aerial and Underground Fiber Optics Networks including Installation and Repair
  • Knowledge of grounding principles in an underground utility network
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations as they apply to locating and providing repair and maintenance within a fiber optic network
