Summary: Under immediate to general supervision, provides limited para-professional social services to clients and their families. Teaches prenatal breastfeeding classes for WIC participants and provides individual breastfeeding education in the WIC clinic as needed. Provides on-going breastfeeding education and/or counseling to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and/or hospital visits at scheduled intervals as determined by the local WIC program. Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including education on the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers to breastfeeding, and how to start breastfeeding successfully. Uses proper and consistent documentation for peer counselor contacts in peer counselor data base system. Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/ workshops as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in a social service-related position OR Two years at an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in a social service-related field. Previous Georgia WIC experience as participant or provider and previous breastfeeding experience.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills: The ability to translate English to Spanish and Spanish to English; preferred but not required.

Salary Information: $11.25 hourly; up to 29 hours weekly
