Converts diagnoses and procedures for hospital inpatient and outpatient services, psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services, and inpatient rehab facility services into alphanumeric codes utilizing ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems. They will make DRG assignments to inpatient accounts and APC assignments to ER, SDC, Infusion and/or Observation outpatient accounts. They will also work with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to obtain appropriate documentation for the coding of the patient's medical record.A Coder III takes a leadership role in regards to special projects in the coding department. Managing at least one project per year.
Education is preferred to include specialized health care subjects, i.e., medical science, pathophysiology, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, ICD9CM coding, CPT/HCPCS coding.
Minimum of 6 years ICD9CM and/or CPT coding experience in a hospital setting. They must have a minimum of 3 years of experience with an encoder software.
At least one of the following: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC- H, COC, CIC
