DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain and coordinate the Quality Assurance and Quality control (QA/QC) program for the laboratory to insure the laboratory's compliance with the TNI standards. Implements, maintains and monitors laboratory testing procedures, ensuring quality control and cost effectiveness. Oversee training of new chemists. Performs routine laboratory tests on a fill-in basis. Performs evaluations of new test methodologies or of revised testing procedures. Oversees SOPs to ensure they are in accordance with regulations. Monitors QA/QC of all reportable data. Assists in development and maintenance of safety protocols. Requisitions laboratory supplies and equipment. Compiles and reviews test results and distributes lab reports; inputs patient data and test results for billing. Maintain lab's regulatory compliance with government agencies, such as EPA and TCEQ. Performs other duties as requested.
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in the Biological Sciences, Chemistry or a closely related field.
Five (5) years of professional experience in a Wastewater Laboratory or a similar facility are required.
A Master's degree in the Biological Sciences, Chemistry or a closely related degree may be substituted for two years of experience.
Requires a valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
**Preferences shall be given to those with experience working in a wastewater laboratory and knowledge of NELAP, LIMS, and QA/QC.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
