Astria Regional Medical Center, a 214-bed facility located in Central Washington’s beautiful wine country in Yakima, Washington, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to replace its current CEO who recently announced his retirement. An Interim CEO is in place. The hospital provides a full complement of medical services including the Valley’s only open-heart surgery, advanced imaging, comprehensive robotics, state-of-the-art neurosurgery, and CARF accredited inpatient rehabilitation. Staffed by approximately 800 full and part-time employees, the hospital offers a wide array of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital provides one of only two single stay cardiac units in the State of Washington. Astria Heart Institute is a platinum level Chest Pain accredited facility from the American College of Cardiology, a Level II Stroke center, and a Level III Trauma Center. The hospital was founded in 1891. On September 1, 2017, the hospital became a part of Astria Health as a non-profit hospital.
The hospital CEO has oversight of the organization and, under a management agreement with Astria Health, is responsible for the management and operation of the facility and its market-specific outpatient primary care and multi-specialty health centers.
We are looking for the right professional to oversee the smooth transition and the continued positive trajectory the current Board, administrative team, staff and physicians have realized since the hospital’s transition from a for-profit to non-profit hospital. The CEO will be accountable for providing the following direction within a highly competitive market:
Providing CEO-level administration, direction and coordination for both inpatient hospital and outpatient health center activities.
Building and executing on strong business strategies and plans to ensure short-term and long-term objectives, including profitable growth.
Improving the City of Yakima and Yakima Valley’s community health status in a financially appropriate way while reducing expenses where necessary.
Inspiring and motivating the Astria Regional Medical Center leadership team and staff, overseeing operations and executing policy formulated by the Hospital Board of Trustees in conjunction with Astria Health, the medical staff and operational entities.
Rebuilding medical staff and community relations (within a unionized workforce environment).
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration or related area and a Master’s degree in Business or Healthcare Administration. The preferred candidate will have 10 years of hospital CEO experience in a successful, comparable organization and ideally be a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Rural hospital experience is preferred. Candidates must have a successful track record of accomplishment in hospital leadership, the ability to develop win-win relationships with the medical staff, the ability to work and take direction from a corporate leadership team, be a team player, have strong financial skills, previous for-profit hospital experience and hospital turn-around experience.
