The Records and Evidence team develops software for public safety organizations to manage all forms of records and evidence. We build products to serve large cities that need sophisticated, customized workflows to smaller municipalities that need cost effective, end to end solutions. All of our systems are built scalable and highly reliable. We provide both cloud and on-premises solutions.

These efforts are all in support of our hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of the Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services use cloud computing infrastructure on AWS and Azure to build at scale.

Job Description

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for leading the design, development, and operations of Motorola Solutions Software Enterprise software development toolchain and cloud platform services. We are looking for an individual with experience leading agile, high-performing software development teams who also has the ability to collaborate with diverse internal and external customer bases while executing at a high level. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate knowledge of modern application architecture and cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills :
Technical and management leadership in a world-class software product development organization
Experience with implementation and optimization of software development processes and team management in order ensure on-time, high-quality execution
Expert-level technical knowledge on at least one modern server-side technology stack and/or programming language
Familiarity with cloud services (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform) including software architecture leadership on products and services at scale
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are a necessity
Demonstrate ability to effectively collaborate across multiple product and line of business organizations
Ability to provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
Experience building diverse, high-performing teams in a rapidly growing organization
Proven experience managing costs and budgets which include both capital and operational expenses
Polished presentation skills for internal and external audiences
High degree of competency with project management, including issues and risk identification and management, tracking; demonstrated strong attention to detail.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a diverse team spread across multiple continents in a fast-moving environment

Qualifications :
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering
At least 10 years professional software development (hands-on) experience
At least 7 additional years software development management experience, preferably managing multiple teams with development managers as direct reports
Demonstrated experience building and growing an organization within a mid-to-large size company
