Johnson County Library is seeking a Circulation Clerk. As a Circulation Clerk, you would provide a quality customer service experience by assisting our patrons with checking out materials, registering new library cards, resolving library account issues and answering basic readers’ advisory questions. In addition, you would specialize in our library’s materials handling processes including the discharging, sorting, organization and maintenance of our collection.
We are always looking for great people and have more than one opening for this job in different Branch Locations. You may be required to work at any library location, if needed. This posting will be open through 4:00 p.m. on November 26, 2018. Qualified applicants will remain as an active candidate for a period of up to 90 days. Job Duties include:
Provides assistance and resolves patron account issues, in person and remotely; Answers basic readers’ advisory and technology questions, referring in-depth questions to appropriate library staff; Utilizes Guidelines for Enforcing Patron Code of Behavior to maintain a safe and comfortable environment; Creates and updates patron records, assisting with the checkout of materials; Follows cash management procedures; Tracks statistics via Gimlet and Door Count sheets; Upholds intellectual freedom.
Discharges, sorts and processes materials; Prioritizes workflow in collaboration with circulation team; Follows Mismatched Items procedure, pulls expired holds and ensures send item list is processed; Organizes carts based on shelving rules and shelves materials according to established standards; Contributes to discussions on the development of a more efficient materials handling system for the Library.
Ensures the collection is properly maintained, weeds collection based on Collections Department guidelines and identifies items in need of repair or relabeling; Completes site checklist for opening and closing, stocks library service points with necessary resources, keeping the work area neat and organized; Redistributes materials according to guidelines from the Collections Department.
Works with supervisor, subject matter experts and Learning & Development to identify training, development and growth opportunities and requirements; Engages and looks for value in all coaching and learning opportunities; Acquires and applies knowledge and skills gained.
Attends system wide and staff meetings or obtains information if unable to attend; Provides support and coverage for coworkers, participates in committees and tracks statistics; Participates in the marketing the library collection, programs and services; Understands and supports system wide strategic objectives.
High school diploma or equivalent; and one (1) year of experience providing customer service is required.
One (1) year of experience in a library or public service environment is preferred.
Experience may be substituted for degree.
Education may be substituted for experience.
