RCS Corporation has an immediate need for a Designer to support Pipeline work out of Los Angeles, CA. This is a long term contract assignment. Our Client provides comprehensive engineering, consulting and automation services to pipelines, utilities and industrial customers. With first-hand experience operating and maintaining energy infrastructure, over 1,000 professionals provide expertise in Pipeline Engineering, Process Safety Management and Industrial Solutions.

This position is responsible for overall design duties in completing project designs, including working with Project Managers, Engineers, Design Coordinators, Sr. Designers, Senior Drafters and Drafters to collect design data and develop drawings from initial planning stages to final engineered drawing packages. Tasks include coordinating project-related tasks with drafters, preparing plans in accordance with client, local, state and federal specifications. The Designer should be able to independently layout various systems and independently generate plans, sections and details that meet all specifications. A Designer should have the ability to work in multiple programs including AutoCAD and Microstation. Designers should be capable of developing design changes, and developing layout recommendations for Design Coordinators and Project Drafting Lead. Drafts detailed dimensional drawings including using independent judgment to determine the required elevations, CAD standards, detail of view for plans, and two-line and 3D drawings as required for determining the placement and completion of gas and liquid pipelines and associated facilities including the development of detailed bills of materials.


Calculating dimensions and ensuring consistency within a specific discipline (piping, civil, structural, electrical) for the design package.
Working with Design Coordinators and drafting leads in determining the required drafters and designers for a particular project and distributing work to drafters.
Coordinating with Design Coordinators and drafting lead on drawing progress.
Reviewing work of Drafter for adherence to ENE design and client CAD standards.
Instructing, training, and coordinating drafters in the completion of basic drafting portions of projects.
Determining placement of piping, increments, and type of piping and materials in accordance with client requirements and local, state and federal standards.
Utilizing independent discretion and judgment in constructing dimensional relationship of one part to another and a relationship of various parts to entire project, utilizing knowledge of engineering practices and mathematics.
Creating preliminary and detailed sketches of proposed plans utilizing manual drawing techniques as well as utilizing computer-assisted design/programs – AutoCAD and Microstation.
Applying knowledge and experience within the gas industry, including applicable standards to determine design plans.
Modifying drawings as required by customer and determining requirements of legal/ordinance issues and/or existing structures, pipelines, and easements.
Working with Design Coordinators or drafting lead in determining whether existing piping and or equipment on the site needs to be replaced or relocated due to existing structures and easements.
Evaluating and determining placement of piping and other structures (i.e. if the piping should be placed under roadways, etc. in evaluating current utilities on the site, easements, and local requirements).
Creating as-built drawings upon completion of project.

An Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) in Design and Drafting Technology.
Strong working knowledge of AutoCad and Microstation software.
Must have Civil 3D design experience.
5 years prior experience preferred in design in the gas and/or liquids pipeline industry.
Ability to perform design drafting in a 3D environment is a plus.
Basic knowledge of pipes, valves and fittings.
Basic knowledge with Barlow’s formula, hydro test stress, fluid velocity and other simple formulas to ensure sound designs.
Basic knowledge of applicable gas and liquids regulations and industry codes.
Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
Basic knowledge of station equipment including meters, pumps, compressors, control valves, separators, dehydration equipment, regenerators, heat exchangers, after coolers and tanks.
Strong work ethic with desire to work in a production environment.

Authorization to work in the US without restriction.
This position requires field work and use of personal vehicle; as a result, the employee must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license and insurance.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
