Senior Research Engineer

Banxin Corporation - Acton, MA


We are looking for an experienced research engineer to help us retrieve the information hidden in large amount of data through sophisticated signal processing techniques and data fusion methods. The primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, performing statistical analysis, and building high quality prediction system integrated with both dynamic and statistical methodologies.


  • Apply data mining, artificial intelligence, signal processing techniques to the R&D of pipe network monitoring, warning and early assessment systems
  • Build and optimize applicable classifiers using machine learning techniques
  • Improve data collection procedures to include information that is relevant to building analytical systems
  • Process, clean and validate the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Develop algorithms, modules and tools for automated detection, tracking and response systems
  • Design and build databases for storing historical data and their statistics
  • Manage team research activities in effort to continuously improve the performance of our R&D products
  • Supervise and coach the team
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Master or Ph.D. in related technical field plus a minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Hands-on experience in time-series data analysis
  • Hands-on experience with processing large datasets in various formats
  • Familiarity with applied mathematics, statistics, and analytical modeling
  • Familiarity with signal processing, time-frequency analysis, FFT, wavelet, adaptive filtering, noise reducing, etc.
  • Familiarity with database technologies - SQL (e.g. MySQL) or NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB)
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests
  • Knowledge of regression methods, multi-variate analysis, linear algebra
  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy or MATLAB
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.
  • Great communication skills and willing to work with other teams

  • Experience with pipe leak detection and localization
  • Knowledge of wireless sensor network, signal processing
  • Proficiency in working in Linux environment and scripting in python, perl or shell
  • Knowledge of GIS, web APIs, JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of fluid mechanics
  • Ability to effectively contribute in fast-paced, multitasking environment
  • Creativity in problem-solving

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $90,000.00 to $110,000.00 /year
