The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for building and supporting employee capabilities by utilizing their Human Resources knowledge. Will drive and implement Human Resources initiatives to increase organizational effectiveness, including onboarding both salaried and hourly workforce groups, recruitment and retention processes, talent development and performance management, employment and employee relations, policy/contract interpretation, compensation administration and legal compliance. Administration of other Human Resources programs aligned with company objectives and work closely with senior HR management in supporting plastic operations, distribution and farming areas. Will maintain data in HRIS database. The HR Generalist serves as back up to Human Resources Generalist counterpart and Sr. Human Resources Business Partner when necessary and provides customer service to employees of all levels and the general public.
Promote and maintain an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service
Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering company policies and helping resolve work-related problems
In conjunction with Sr. Human Resources Business Partner, consult with hiring managers to develop and implement recruiting strategies and headcount needs, participate in interview process as needed and oversee the onboarding process after candidate selection
Recruit and supply job offers for seasonal workforce in Yuma
With the support of the Human Resources Coordinator, plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives
Maintain employee records and ensure HRIS is updated with related data such as hires, transfers, merit increases, progressive discipline and absenteeism
Handle sensitive employee relations and staffing issues from start to finish, including dealing with understaffing, overseeing disputes, counseling employees, and administering disciplinary procedures
With the support of Benefits, provides information, counsels, and assists employees on understanding general benefit plan provisions
Advise managers, supervisors and employees on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment
Plan, coordinate and execute HR-related employee training
May represent organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations
Conduct exit interviews to identify reasons for employee termination
Required skills and abilities:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Human Resources or the equivalent experience
Three to five years related experience; strong HR Generalist background
Thorough knowledge of state and federal employment laws and employment practices, compensation and rewards systems, staffing/renewal systems
Bilingual and bi-literate English/Spanish required
Experience working with a seasonal workforce preferred
Ability to travel to Yuma, AZ as needed during winter growing season - typically November thru April
Work Monday thru Friday and participate – PM and weekend hours required.
Sense of urgency, ability to handle multiple projects, and self-starter.
Experience using Human Resources Information Systems, KRONOS and Workday software experience a plus with a solid proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook required
Strong communication skills both orally and in writing. Skilled individual and group process techniques and strong interpersonal relations, must be able to make effectively group presentations to employees, management and business partners.
Strong skills in influencing, counseling, consulting, negotiation, and leadership with experience involving conflict resolution.
Ability to work independently and exercise decision making within designated level of authority and act for the HR Manager in the manager’s absence
