Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Operations Research Analyst performing professional and scientific work requiring systematic, critical, intensive investigation into a subject in order to develop the principles, criteria, methods, and data relationships to be used in support of projects or problems solving studies.

Working under the guidance of senior analyst, applies a range of analytical, mathematical, and/or statistical theories, principles, and practices to plan, coordinate, and execute segments of complex studies that include second and third level effects. Results are presented in the form of final reports and outbriefs to senior leader that requested the analysis.

Compiles, organizes, and analyzes data/information to find solutions to supply chain problems requiring the use of a broad range of established operations research methods and techniques.

Participates in special initiatives, studies, and projects. Performs special research tasks designed to utilize and enhance knowledge of work processes and techniques.

Attends meetings, conferences briefings, and seminars related to program planning. Prepares and presents briefings on the study's progress and results.

Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and professional development to remain current in the field and for application to work assignments.

A Bachelors of science degree from an accredited institution in mathematics, computer science, one of the physical sciences, engineering ot closely related scientific discipline is highly desired.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet th education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe, in detail, your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Education Requirement for NH-I515 Positions: A Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Evaluation of Education: The primary requirement of operations research work is competence in the rigorous methods of scientific inquiry and analysis rather than in the subject matter of the problem. Therefore, applicants should have sufficient knowledge of applied mathematics to understand and use the fundamental concepts and techniques of operations research methods of analysis. In addition, some positions may require knowledge of a specific subject area. Courses acceptable for qualifying for operations research positions may have been taken in departments other than Operations Research, e.g., Engineering (usually Industrial Engineering), Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science.

Specialized Experience:
Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to Federal service at the next lower broadband (NH-02) or next lower grade (GS-11) or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience performing mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other scientific methods such as routine cost analysis and basic cost estimates associated with preparation of system cost; extracting and organizing raw cost data; conducting basic mathematical analysis of programs information; and assisting in the collection, development and implementation of cost related information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Professional knowledge of a wide range of principles, concepts, and practices of operations research analysis to apply scientific methods and techniques to analyze systems, processes, and/or operational problems and procedures.
Knowledge of mathematics and analysis to perform studies and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate recommendations/conclusions clearly.
Knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to develop, adapt, modify, and apply models to resolve problems or define and clarify alternative solutions.
Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply operations research rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend solutions to senior analysts.
Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors and fundamental relationships, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.
Ability to plan and organize work, and confer with co-workers effectively.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Physical Demands
Most work is performed sitting at a desk, with some walking, standing, and bending. Recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds, such as standard office equipment and supplies.
