The Library Assistant in the Learning Commons will be responsible for customer service duties, including answering questions, providing technical assistance with computers and printers, and checking items in and out.

Education/Experience
Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University academically and judicially.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Attention to detail; ability to follow instructions for set procedures and processes.

Proficiency with technology, including printing, scanning, copying, technical troubleshooting, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publications), and internet browsing/searching.

Previous experience in a library or office is desirable but not required.

Ability to work both independently and under supervision.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Physical Requirements
Medium work. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, keyboarding, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and communicate in English. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside environmental conditions. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Essential Functions
Staff the desk at the Learning Commons in the Manning Academic Center (Owings Mills North campus).

Check items from the OMN collection (including laptops, headphones, calculators, dry erase markers) in and out for patrons. Accept and process returns for items from other Stevenson campuses.

Answer basic library questions from patrons. Refer patrons to a librarian for help with more complex research questions.

Provide technical assistance with computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite and internet browsers.

Assist patrons with printing, copying, scanning, and login issues. Perform basic troubleshooting on computers and the printer/scanner/copier unit, and enter tickets requesting help from the Office of Information Technology as necessary.

Assist with creating displays and content for library marketing/social media accounts as requested.
