Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) is a private, non-profit college making a vital difference in the lives of urban youth and in the local economy by educating young men and women in technical fields where skilled workers are in high demand. The college prepares Boston-area students to enter technology careers, blending technical know-how with power skills such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and the ability to obtain and evaluate information. A BFIT degree leads to a meaningful career in growth industries and offers the BFIT graduate, and often their entire family, a pathway out of poverty.

To increase BFIT’s enrollment of Boston youth, improve their graduation rate, and enhance their placement in family-sustaining jobs, BFIT aims to expand the college’s fundraising performance significantly. The 5-year Opportunity Campaign anchored with a $2,000,000 grant will launch in September 2018 to ensure the college delivers on its mission as well as its strategic plan for growth. As BFIT begins this major campaign, the college is seeking an energetic, highly-organized, and entrepreneurial Senior Development Officer to join the development team. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the SDO will manage and expand the college’s portfolio of individual donors who exhibit considerable promise for contributing major gifts.

Position Overview:

The Senior Development Officer will foster strong relationships with existing major donors and will identify and cultivate relationships with new major gift prospects from the greater Boston community and BFIT alumni. The successful candidate will have extensive prior experience with individual donors and be familiar with all aspects of the development process including donor identification & research, cultivation, solicitation of gifts $10,000+, and stewardship. In collaboration with students, faculty, and staff, the SDO will organize stewardship experiences that draw donors closer to the college’s mission. He or she will be proficient in preparing all of the necessary written correspondence required including research reports, proposals and other communications for the prospect/donor. This individual will also have responsibility for organizing individual introductory visits to the college and assisting in major donor event planning.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of major gifts experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to engage, motivate and inspire others to action
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and donor database management/reporting systems
  • Deep ties within the greater Boston community is preferred
  • Prior experience with higher education or social service agencies dealing with inner-city neighborhoods is preferred.
