Lung failure is a progressive and debilitating disease that contributes to the death of over 235,000 people in the United States alone each year. The options available for physicians treating end-stage lung failure are limited, and do not provide the lung support required for healing and effective rehabilitation. Breethe is developing a new treatment option that will improve outcomes and dramatically enhance their quality of life

Summary of Position

Breethe is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Technician to join our team in the development of a portable artificial lung (ECMO). Responsibilities include supporting the development and manufacturing of a device containing digital controls, sensors, batteries, user controls/displays, pneumatics, fluidics, pump drives and other mechanical systems that communicate with blood and oxygen. This individual must have experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team including contractor and vendor resources. Experience with formal engineering development processes, regulated industry and compliance to industry standards is desired.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Electromechanical assembly, prototyping and fabrication in a clean room environment.
  • Inspection of mechanical components.
  • Verification of specifications by measuring and testing.
  • Development and assembly of test fixtures.
  • Refinement of manufacturing processes.
  • Support of laboratory operations and testing.
  • Conduct experiments and collect data.
  • Work as an integral member of the manufacturing team throughout the product lifecycle, working with mechanical, electrical, software and firmware engineers.


  • Engineering documentation, assembly drawings, manufacturing procedures
  • Familiarity with regulated compliance testing and modern testing methods.
  • Ability to use a variety of machine and hand tools (CNC experience a plus)
  • Good computer skills
  • Knowledge of quality systems for medical devices or other regulated industry is preferred
  • Manufacturing process development and CAD/CAM experience is preferred

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Associates degree in a technical field, preferably electrical or mechanical
  • Five years of experience in a regulated design and development environment or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with electromechanical devices (medical preferred)
