*Position Summary:
*The Volunteer Reston Assistant works under supervision of the Volunteer Reston Manager to provide help with volunteer recruitment, management, and retention.

*Responsibilities:
* * Manages volunteer database and tracks volunteer time in Volgistics.

  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, placing and training of new volunteers.
  • In conjunction with the Volunteer Reston Manager, provide on the job supervision to assess volunteer performance.
  • Maintain new and ongoing volunteer positions on several online database sites (VolunteerMatch, Volunteer Fairfax, Idealist, etc . . . )
  • Oversees volunteer-related correspondence, including school community service letters and thank you notes.
  • Manages records and ensures all proper documentation is received from volunteers including waivers and tracking forms.
  • Assist with RA Annual Volunteer Reston Service Awards Reception and other volunteer event projects.
  • Assists with data collection and analysis of programmatic data in order to evaluate progress through the creation of statistical and narrative reports.
  • Attend school service fairs and community events on behalf of Volunteer Reston to recruit volunteers.
  • Updates Volunteer Reston’s webpage, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages on a regular basis.
  • Potential to create marketing materials for the volunteer programs and ‘Volunteer Reston’ section of Reston Magazine.
  • Assist the Volunteer Reston Manager with community corporate events, as needed.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

  • This is not a supervisory role. However, the Volunteer Assistant does watch over our many volunteers throughout the spring, summer and fall season. She or he is responsible for assisting managers and or volunteers with issues in relation to the volunteer program.
  • This position reports to the Volunteer Manager.

Education and Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, plus experience in a related position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Adobe Acrobat and social media knowledge is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to plan, organize and supervise others; ability to work with a diverse group of people; skill in networking and making group presentations.

Experience in outreach to potential volunteers of all types, ages, and diverse cultures, including students, people with disabilities, businesses, etc.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with diverse groups of staff, volunteers, and other community constituents.

Innovative and conceptual thinker with good problem solving skills.

Other Qualifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record, and be able to work irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.

Decision-Making & Independence Exercised: Describes the level of authority and/or responsibility to make decisions, develop and revise policies & procedures, make official commitments on behalf of the Association, etc.

Employee follows established guidelines; may be required to provide consultation or expert advice to management or the public, or investigate and resolve matters of significance on behalf of management.

Tools, Equipment & Machines Used: Requires continuous use of a personal computer, telephone, and copy machine. Occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle.

Contacts: Frequent contact with volunteers, Association staff and members, and representatives of community organizations.

This job is performed both in an office setting and outdoors where there may be exposure to temperature extremes and high noise levels.

Salary: $12.40 to $19.83 /hour
