Converged Architecture Lead - Systems Engineer III
The City of Virginia Beach has an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Converged Architecture team's journey to modernize technology and processes of the City’s IT infrastructure. This is a Lead Systems Engineer position and will supervise a team of computer, storage, network, and core application engineers help to integrate industry leading best practices into traditional data center infrastructure, as well as software-defined designs towards a private and hybrid cloud architecture. The Converged Architecture team provides direct business value by making the City more efficient and empower the workforce to focus at a higher level. This team’s duties include research and development, design, implementation, operations, and continual improvement of enterprise class solutions.
The ideal candidate will be self-driven, collaborative, eager to enact change, and will hold the required experience and some combination of the preferred experience. This role is required to learn and stay abreast of new technology to identify opportunities for the organization.
Candidate should have experience in the following City supported services, to include:
5 years experience supervising a team of computer engineers
Converged infrastructure – DellEMC Vxblock
Server Virtualization – VMware/Microsoft
EMC Storage Area Networks & Network Attached Storage
Identity and Access Management
Messaging & Collaboration – Office 365
Network Virtualization – VMware NSX
Data Protection - EMC Avamar/Data Domain
Automation & Orchestration – VMware vRealize
Configuration Management - SCCM
Desktop and Application Virtualization – Horizon/Citrix
Load Balancing – F5
Cloud IaaS – Azure/AWS
In addition, the ideal candidate will have:
15 years experience in Information Technology Role
Microsoft Windows Server engineering/administration experience
VMware Engineering, Architecture and Design experience
Incident, Problem, and Change Management experience
Two or more of the following certifications: VCP, VCAP, VCDX, MCSE, DellEMC - DECE/DECM, CCNA

MINIMUMS: Any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to ten (10) years in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as information technology systems engineer, database administrator, technical systems analyst, programmer analyst or systems analyst. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Four (4) years of progressive professional experience in the advertised job role may be required; such required experience will be listed in the requisition that announces the vacancy. Position may require certain Expert Level I Certifications specific to the work to be performed and maintain currency of those, or successor, certifications; such required certifications will be listed in the requisition that announces the vacancy.

B.S. in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Engineering, or similar degree
5 years exp supervising a team of computer engineers
Active Directory Services including DHCP, DNS, CA, IIS, ADFS
Methodical troubleshooting and analytical skills
Identifying key performance indicators, trending metrics, capacity planning, building reporting dashboards
Proven communication & organizational skills - must have ability to communicate at all levels within the organization both verbally and in writing
