Job Description: The role of the Assistant ReStore Manager/Donations Ambassador is to help the ReStore Manager operate a profitable Habitat for Humanity ReStore. In this role, the appropriate candidate will manage processes, engage volunteers, donors, and staff, and create, implement, and execute policies and procedures that will enable Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County to continue to work towards its mission of eliminating poverty housing.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Opening and closing of the ReStore as required. Management of the customer service processes, support of store operations and volunteer management in coordination with other team members
  • Daily sales/cash register reconciliation and deposits
  • Maintain the security of the store
  • Actively solicit donations from new sources such as: Realtors, Estate Settlement companies, Retirement Communities, Big Box Retailers, Furniture Stores, Office buildings, landlords, etc.
  • Working closely with the volunteer coordinator or ReStore Manager to attract and retain volunteers by:
  • Developing a daily and weekly schedule of volunteers with assigned times and areas/tasks. Track volunteer hours monthly by volunteer type
  • Developing and updating training program for new volunteers; personally interviewing new volunteers or assigning a volunteer or staff member to train new volunteers
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of the ReStore Volunteer Committee
  • Work closely with AmeriCorps VISTA Member to develop an effective donor solicitation and engagement program to attract and retain high quality, repeat donations
  • Responsible for team building and conflict resolution
  • Assist ReStore Manager in developing and implementing marketing and public relations campaigns for increasing sales and donations. Assist with management of social media and website content
  • Oversee daily and weekly pickup schedules created by the donation scheduler
  • Responsible for maintenance and inspection of trucks
  • Responsible for monitoring and training staff to only accept items that are of good quality or better
  • Responsible for ensuring that all items are kept in excellent condition
  • Work closely with ReStore Manager to ensure store policies and procedures are properly implemented and executed
  • Manage the overall donation process to include receipt, cleaning, testing, pricing, ticketing and moving items to proper place on the selling floor
  • Responsible for timely unloading of merchandise and placement in showroom
  • Oversee and maintain daily/weekly task assignments, records, and performance management – insure all checklists are completed
  • Achieve excellent customer, donor and volunteer ratings
  • Assists ReStore Manager with performance evaluations
  • Attend, deliver reports and make presentations to the ReStore Committee when manager is not available
  • Meet with potential donors and community partners to introduce and explain the ReStore and its mission
  • Responsible for ensuring dumpster costs are kept low
  • Other tasks/assignments as deemed appropriate by ReStore Manager and/or Executive Director


  • Has the ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers while also maintaining the ability to perform required tasks in the absence of staff or volunteers
  • Required to lift a minimum of 75 pounds without assistance, climb ladders, work in very hot and cold conditions, climb stairs
  • Is self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic
  • Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Displays the ability to effectively and tactfully manage challenging situations
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Displays a commitment to a safe working environment
  • Can operate office equipment including copiers, fax machines, etc.
  • Is computer literate; to include Microsoft Word & Excel (PowerPoint a plus), Quickbooks (including POS software). Must have willingness to learn other programs as needed
  • Has a minimum of three years work experience, preferably one year in a management role
  • Preferably has experience with volunteer engagement and non-profit work
  • Possesses a valid Driver License and can pass a background check and drug test

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35,000.00 /year
