System Administrators are a critical part of RAND’s Information Services team, which provides information technology solutions and support in the areas of Information Security, Application Delivery, Research Programming, and Information Systems Operations. This position will work as an integral part of the Operations Team providing technical expertise and ensuring IT compliance for the company's computing systems.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Verify and maintain the integrity and operation of RAND servers, end points and services (Unified Communications, collaboration tools, Active Directory, web, and file sharing)
Implement technical and security controls, regulations and processes required by NISPOM, DOD Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs).
Analyze and provide system performance monitoring and reporting; determine when additional resources are needed (Capacity Management)
Provide assistance to staff, including the diagnosing and troubleshooting of hardware and software problems. Act as a resource for problem resolution, solving difficult and complicated technical problems in the field of expertise.
Perform maintenance of PC and/or Macintosh computer configurations of Operating Systems and Applications for user desktops, laptops, and workstations.
Complete a wide range of sever, end points, and service requests; ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction and system availability
Participate in cross-functional teams tasked with the implementation of multiple and simultaneous new technology related initiatives and solutions
Collaborate with other Information Services groups and RAND departments in the evaluations, customization, adaptation, implementation and security of infrastructure hardware and software systems, services and networks.
Review, advise and design standard software and hardware builds, review system options, risks, and impact on the enterprise business process and goals
Prepare servers and endpoints for announced and unannounced audits from regulators agencies; account for and report on thousands of auditable technical configurations and controls
Provide services including data transfers, meeting assistance, computer deliveries, SVTC support, and inventory-related tasks.
Adhere to ITIL practices including change management, system backups and other IT operational best practices including system documentation
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required

Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Windows operating systems, troubleshooting complex technical problems in a commercial or university setting as well as architecting a corporate-wide installation
Moderate to advanced skill level with Windows servers and endpoints, SAN & NAS storage, DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, DHCP, server virtualization, and Active Directory
Solid understanding of the National Industrial Security Field Operations Manual and best practices, including Security Technical Implementation Guides, utilized in the security community with knowledge on the current on changing requirements
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to contribute to cross-functional teams
The business ethic of working well independently and with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Excellent judgment, communications skills, written and verbal
The Systems Administrator will need to have and maintain an in-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems and applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both matters technical and non-technical.

BA/BS, preferably in IT or IT related discipline, or equivalent work experience is acceptable.
