What you’ll be doing...
Our network system assurance team keeps our highly reliable network operating at optimum levels for our customers. As a network system assurance engineer, you’ll be operating, administering, maintaining, and evolving our highly complex network to support the needs of our customers.
You will be responsible for the advanced installation, operation, and maintenance of switching, data communications, and peripheral equipment associated with the Mobile Switching Center (MSC). Maintaining system applications; ensuring quality customer service; and providing support to a varied user community; updating systems with site-specific information; and composing clear and concise reports for system documentation. You will perform your duties independently, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled. You will resolve equipment and software issues, perform upgrades, configure and administers multiple vendor systems. Coordinates installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities (OC48, OC3, DS3, DS1) as well as Ethernet back-haul circuits.
Monitor, analyze, troubleshoot and resolve system events for various technologies, including VoLTE, 4G LTE and 3G voice/data, and managing equipment and services supported by the Systems Operations Team, such as transport systems (DACS, fiber nodes, panels, wiring, (TDM, SONET, Microwave), switching systems (Nokia/ALU 5ESS, OMP, RNC, packet networks (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia/ALU), multi-services provisioning platforms (MSPP, Fujitsu, Nokia/ALU), Firewalls, ISP choke routers and many ancillary network devices (timing sources, packet monitoring, etc.).
Utilize network sniffers to perform data packet analysis to troubleshoot call flows.
Serve as a key resource tasked with proactively monitoring and maintaining assigned network offices, infrastructure and peripherals.
Provide initial troubleshooting/investigation, ongoing communication and preventative maintenance on critical office systems; power plant (Generators, batteries, rectifiers, inverters), heating and cooling units (HVAC) as well as fire systems.
Implement, document, monitor, and optimize the elements and configurations necessary to provide wireless network services for the locations in and around the Springfield, IL market.
Work with our national and regional engineering teams to ensure coordination of all requirements associated with wireless data network services.
Provide a disciplined Project Management approach to network modifications and growth, taking accountability for installation oversight; project scheduling, pre/post network testing, network directives and preventative maintenance activities.
Proactively monitor and report on resource utilization and equipment status to assure optimum network availability and reliability as demanded by company performance standards.
Utilize documented information such as IP addresses, port assignments and connection information for routing and switching equipment in Granite Inventory systems.
Review MOP’s and change control process accounting for modifications to configurations which are compliant to company network security, reliability, and control standards. Provide assistance to national network operations, system performance, and data services engineers/maintenance in the resolution of technical and customer problems.
Compose detailed shift and outage reports to management.
Manage outage bridges and engage vendors for outage support.
Provide support to localize and isolate faults, detect and diagnose anomalous behavior.
Provide technical support to network assurance teams for troubleshooting network issues and training on new technologies.
Participate in new technology and product trials; ensure timely product rollout and testing.
Identify Key Performance Indicators and propose enhancements.
Manage Vendors to ensure timely delivery of new equipment, features and product upgrades.
Work independently and make sound technical judgments in a dynamic environment.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary.
Perform on call duties as scheduled or needed.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
Three or more years of relevant work experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to lift 50lbs
Willingness to travel.
Knowledge of data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, Frame Relay, ATM, OSPF, BGP, SS7, MPLS, Session-Initiated-Protocol, Mobile-IP other LAN/WAN protocols.
Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities (OC48, T3, T1, and DSO) and Ethernet back-haul.
Knowledge of computer systems, stored program control, and power.
Knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment.
Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities (Packet, SONET and TDM).
Experience with the UNIX/Linux operating systems.
Even better if you have:
Electronics training in one or more of the following fields: telecommunications (cellular or landline) switching systems or experience in LAN/WAN operations and IP connectivity.
Knowledge of and experience in the Ericsson 4G cellular infrastructure its operations, maintenance, configurations and trouble resolution Including the following systems eNB, OSS, PGW, MME, SGW, and HSGW.
Knowledge of and experience in the operations, maintenance, configurations and trouble resolution of the following MSC based equipment. Cisco 6500 and Nokia 7750 and 7705 routers and switches; Tellabs 5500 and 532 cross-connect systems, Comverse Voice Mail Systems, and Fujitsu fiber-optic equipment (4500, 7500, 9500), as well as DC power systems.
Training in three or more of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management, and/or power/electrical.
Networking background and industry certification (Cisco/Juniper); routers, switches, IPv4 and IPv6, knowledge of call flows.
Experience with Python.
Experience with shell, AWK, SED and other common system functions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office product suite.
Working knowledge of Google suites.
