Performs field inspections to appraise new and existing residential property on a mass appraisal basis. Defends values at Board of Equalization and State Board of Tax Appeals.

Locates, inspects and appraises property using maps and property descriptions noting characteristics of land and improvements. Establishes fair market value by comparison of characteristics to sales of similar properties. Interacts with property owners to explain the appraisal process and policies. Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to learn. On the job training will be provided.
Appraiser I (Entry Level) - High School Diploma or equivalent, valid WA State Driver’s License. Must attend and successfully complete/pass; Fundamentals of the Assessor’s Office, IAAO Course 101 (Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal), or its equivalent, Accreditation Examination, or its equivalent, resulting in certification as a Real Property Appraiser to qualify as an Appraiser II.
Appraiser II - High School Diploma or its equivalent, Valid Washington State Driver’s License, Accreditation Examination, or its equivalent, resulting in certification as a Real Property Appraiser. Fundamentals of the Assessor’s Office (DOR). IAAO Course 101 (Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal) or its equivalent.
Appraiser III - High School Diploma or its equivalent, Valid Washington State Driver’s License, Accreditation Examination, or its equivalent, resulting in certification as a Real Property Appraiser. Fundamentals of the Assessor’s Office, IAAO Course 101 (Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal), IAAO Course 102 (Income Approach to Valuation 1), or its equivalent, IAAO Course 201 (Appraisal of Land), or its equivalent, IAAO Course 300 (Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal), or its equivalent.

Health Insurance – Regular full-time employees and their qualifying dependents are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Some regular part-time employees may receive the same coverage. Employees may partially contribute premiums depending upon the type of coverage selected.
Paid Leave – Sick leave, holidays, and vacation are provided in accordance with the County policy or union contracts. Vacation accrual rates increase at regular intervals based on length of service with the County.
Retirement Plan – All regular Mason County employees are enrolled in the Washington State Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF). The County and employees contribute jointly to the plans.
